Should the selectors have been picked David Hussey in the Australian One-Day squad?
I think David Hussey deserve a place in the One-Day squad?
|
I think he's deserved some form of shot over his recent career. Hard to see where he'd fit in at the moment, though. The aussie middle order of Ponting, Hussey, Watson, Clarke and Symonds is no easy wall to break.
|
Would take him over Cosgrove any day. Seeing as we already have openers in Hayden, Katich, Gilchrist and Jaques. Cosgrove has had a couple of digs at #5...most overrated domestic player I've ever seen. When you look at the fortunes of some people like Stuart Law and Martin Love it's hard to see how the guy is regarded so highly. I was offended when he won the Bradman Rising Star or whatever it was.

No. Not consistent enough.
|
He might earn a shot in the next season or two if he keeps making big runs in the short form of the game, but I can't see him establishing a regular place. The Australian middle to lower order in ODIs right now, excluding number 4, is one of the strongest in history. Ponting, Symonds, Clarke and Hussey are virtually impossible to replace, and the number 4 spot is likely to go to Watson in the long term I think, which makes it hard for Hussey to break in.

A victim of not knocking down the door in the FC arena. If he had've been pushing selection in both, he would have played ODI cricket by now. Because he's virtually an OD specialist, he'll never get a game.

I'll pick him in place of Martyn
|
I don't see where you would slot him in. Who would he replace? And I agree with the comments about not being consistent enough.
|
The big problem is that hussey has never done that well in aussie domestic cricket compared to county cricket in notts and so there's not as much press/selector attention for him. Plus the fact he's only been playing FC cricket since 2002 doesn't help.
And as for the "Not consistent enough" allegation he has been basically holding together a very average team this season all by himself, if an average of 47.62 in 17 matches isn't consistent that i don't know what is. |

I don't think he deserved a spot to be honest, I would have still picked Martyn over him. The argument is that he has not performed well enough to warrant his inclusion in the Pura Cup and ING Cup, sure in the County Championship he might be brilliant but to be honest I don't think that the Aussie selectors care too much about the CC. They see the Australian Domestic Competition as much tougher and rightfully so.

Wasn't he the state player of the year in one dayers? He had a poor FC season but not OD I think..

What is the cricinfo profile referring to? I am confused.. :
Once again the home first-class summer was more subdued, with 502 at 31.37 boosted by five fifties, including one in final, but he was outstanding in the one-day arena. Aggressive and sometimes unconventional, he picked up 535 at 76.42, a collection which was led by his 130 against Queensland and earned him the state's limited-overs player-of-the-year award. |
