Most underrated players
Saeed Anwar - possibly but his greatness was well documented
Mohammad Yousuf - everyone knows he's a genius...maybe unfortunate to not be mentioned in the same breath as Dravid and co sometimes
Danish Kaneria - fairly rated IMO
Kamran Akmal - Certainly not...everyone's accepted he's going to be Pakistan's keeper for a while but he's really not THAT great...overrated IMO
VVS Laxman - By selectors maybe...his class is understood but he's been his own villain a lot of the time
Matthew Hayden - Huge purple patch...an abundance of luck contributed. Fine batsman all the same and picked in some all-time sides, was #1 in the world for ages...possibly overrated
Simon Jones - The guy's a gun no doubt about it, shame about injuries he deserves a bigger wrap.
Shivnarayan Chander Pal - ?
Shane Bond - What can you do when the guy constantly gets injured. It's not a media perception that he's not the best in the world because he certainly could have been. Those who've seen some of his one day heroics rate him
Chris Schofield - Brought it upon himself really...could have had much more. People still talk about him as if he had Downs Syndrome so he's underrated in that regard.

Yea i remember at the time he was playing for Pakistan many people wished he gets out cheaply and in doing so looses his place in the team. People just hated Ijaz for some reason, looking back one has to admit Ijaz was a decent player who was massivley undervalued by his own country supporters.
He wasn't glamorous or an extrovert. The subcontinent looks at the flashy players much more. Though the style of plays of Ijaz Ahmed and Dravid are completely different of course, Dravid is a similar in other aspects like extrovert nature etc. I remember how Dravid was despised so much early on and test crowds even booed him. That the masses started appreciating shows Dravid's level of greatness.

James Franklin, a better Test strike rate with the ball than Sir Richard Hadlee and pretty handy with the bat too.

Perhaps in the 90's and earlier this century, but not now IMO. If anything he could be over-rated?

I don't know if MacGill is massivly underated. I think people accept that without Warne as a contempory he would have gone on to achieve great things for Austrailia and that he would almost be an automatic selection in every other test side. Perhaps its a matter of Warne being over-rated?

He was genuinley hated by the masses, even if he use to score runs people would come out with statements like " Ijaz confirms his place for the next 10 games".

I agree sub-cont fans like thrilling players but Ijaz was no Marc Richardson remeber his knock against India at Lahore, his record against India and Aus was fairly good so again he was not seen as a weak team bully was a brilliant feilder as well all i can think of is his ugly stance which might have put off people.

Did someone say Chris Schofield was under-rated? Or did pigs just fly??

Let's face it, he's probably the worst Test international that england have ever picked.

No he isn't. He's not even close to about half of England's Test debutants in the 90s.

OK, which 50% is he better than?
Only ones close are Lathwell and maybe Paul Taylor and Neil Williams.

Guys like Min Patel, Richard Illingworth and Salisbury have had far more distinguished careers.

Since when has 15 games, 20 wickets @ 76.95 been distinguished?
Its not, but 842 FC wickets is. As is a 17 year FC career.

Its also infinately better than never taking a Test wicket.
