Not based on anything other than your personal favourite cricketers, and yes Fred Swarbrook can open the bowling if he's one of your favourites.

I'll try to give arbitrary one line justifications for my choices:

1. Jack Hobbs - Cambridge man; fairly useful bat too
2. Alec Stewart - Loved those bat twirls
3. Brian Lara - Genius incarnate
4. Douglas Jardine* - made the Aussies hop about a bit
5. Steve Waugh - Reminded me of Clint Eastwood in the dollars films at the crease; all gimlet eyes & steely determination
6. Andrew Flintoff - just seems a top fella; greatest living Englishman (after Federer)
7. Adam Gilchrist+ - a gentleman & a player
8. Shane Warne - just a player, but what a player
9. Curtley Ambrose - coolest man ever: fact
10. Fred Trueman - admirably bitter right to the end; RIP big fella
11. Devon Malcolm - splendidly crap bat, blind as a bat, rocket throwing arm, bowling potentially lethal to friend & foe alike

12. Graham Thorpe - Wonderfully saturnine in demeanour; reminds me of Morrissey

You'd have the Don give up his customary #3 spot for Ricky Ponting?

I actually like that list though.

Yes, I would. Bradman has been out of form for some time and needs to be protected. And thank you.

Cricket Web: All-Time Legend
1.Jack Hobbs - Legend!!
2.Michael Slater - Most devastating opener mid to late 90's
3.Don Bradman - Simply the best!!!
4.Ponting - 1 of, if not the Best no.3 Since bradman (had to bat at 4 though in this team)
5.Steve Waugh* - Ice Man, won us quite a few series single handidly in the 90's
6.Sir Garfield Sobers - Greatest Allrounder
7.Ian Healy - Best ever Australia to pull on the gloves... and a queenslander to boot!!:)
8.Shane Warne - Expert text messager, oh he can bowl some handy leg spin as well
9.Wasim Akram - Greatest left armer so had to put him in (being a lefty myself and all)
10.Malcom Marshall - The Greatest pace bowler, and would give warne & murali a run for their money in greatest of all!
11.Glenn McGrath - Legendary batsmen (see 61* against NZ 2004) who can bowl a bit might i add!

12th Man. Andy Bichel - Specialist 12th man!! Gave his all every match not matter if he was in the XI or not.
13th Man. Freddie Flintoff - despite what he did to us between July -Sept last year
14th Man. Adam Gilchrist - Simply devastating with the bat, best allrounder keeper IMO.

fairly biased towards Aussies, but you did say favourite, which I took to mean players I love to watch, or would love to have watched (Bradman natch, and Miller, the real coolest man ever to play)

Lara - Just think these two legends (my 2 fav players ever) coming out to open would be awesome. Particularly in ODIs. The opposition would crap themselves. I'm sure they could do it in tests too
Dravid - Utter respect for him.
Sir Don - Greatest of all time, says it all.
Sir Viv - Sheer brutality. Chewing gum + No helmet =
Sangakkara - Love watching him bat, and he's a top bloke. Very sophisticated.
Warne - as a spinner myself I love watching him work his art and bamboozle the opposition batsmen
Akhtar - Love watching him bowl. Excitement machine.
Ambrose - Prob my favourite bowler ever
Murali - Ditto Warne
