I'll go Lawry myself. I suspect, rather like Boycott & Barrington and to a lesser extent the later period SR Waugh, he was a rather better batter than his low-risk approach allowed himself to be.
Cricket Web's 2013/14 Premier League Tipping Champion

    - As featured in The Independent.

"as much a news event as an actual footballer, a worthy stop-start centre forward, but an all-time hyper-galactico when it comes to doing funny things with cars and hats, a player whose signing proves once again that the Premier League is still undoubtedly the best in the world when it comes to doing things with cars and hats."
    - Barney Ronay on Mario Balotelli

As batsmen they are probably of a similar standard but my vote goes to Simpson for the reasons SJS stated.

Simpson, if only for Lawry being one of the worst commentators around (GOT HIM!).

Simpson. Wow this is a bad matchup. I bet it will be Bradman vs. Warnie next.

IIRC wasn't Bradman removed as he was a guaranteed winner?

Lawry - gotta say I like his commentary, and the fact that he seems less blatantly pro-aussie than his cohorts in the commentary box, bar Greigy off course.
