The 1986-2006 World XI so far:

1. Matthew Hayden (LHB): 84 tests, 7326 runs @ 53.08, 26 centuries, 26 fifties

First, the 3 runner-ups from the # 3 Poll

Then, the following are the nominees for the best # 4 during the period 1986-2006:

So, whats the over/under on the number of votes Martin Crowe and Daryll Cullinan will get?

In any case, its Tendulkar, fairly easily.

So you getting worried now SS, if Tendulker get's # 4, how you going to feel when Waugh gets # 5 :)

btw, I think you're being a bit harsh on Martin Crowe as he averages 50+ in the period and he would have done a lot better if he didn't have dodgy knees

Look, I am not trying to knock any of them. I was just saying that most players (maybe not Crowe) will get zero votes, so I don't see the point. I am not saying they aren't good players, not at all.

In any case, lets leave this behind us...its your poll and you can run it however you want.

As for Waugh getting #5, it would be odd to say the least if Waugh and Ponting make the team but Lara misses out. If Lara makes it, then it would mean Waugh misses out in favor of Ponting. Both these scenarios don't make much sense. Thats why I was adamant that Lara should be #3, because now it means that either Lara or Waugh will miss out...and neither should IMO.

I see your point, however I thought the Lara/Tendulker vote would be a lot closer (I know it's early).

Well, if Lara wins here then it means either Tendulkar or Waugh misses out...and its exactly the same thing.

SS, see the main 1986-2006 World XI thread for a proposal you might like :)

I've gone with Sachin on the very sound grounds that his only serious competition for #4 is Kallis & I refuse to vote for the king of the red ink.

I don't think the competition is all that serious, I see Kallis as more of an ideal #3, or maybe as #6 when he used to bowl a lot.

TBF to Jacques (as I'm not often prone to be) his figures @ 4 are not unimpressive.

What about Lara at 4 - that's the position I'd always consider him to be best at.

No, but in an all time team, I think he would be most useful in those two positions, not that he can't bat at 4.

Lara for me. For reasons that have been discussed in the many Tendulkar v Lara threads in this forum, I prefer him to Tendulkar. Lara's played most of his career at 4, also.
