Cricket on YouTube

By the way, youtube also has the 1977 Centenary test. For those who haven't seen it, this is a fabulous recording not just because of the occasion and the greatest assembly of cricketers in one place ever but because of the terrific cricket that was played over five days.

I remember the DDCA (Delhi and District Cricket Association) organised a show for the film of the match to be shown to all its members and it was easily the finest cricket movie I had ever seen then.

Here it is..

From 1.21 to 1.46 in that Part 3 you see three most amazing catches by Alan Knott (an inside edge moving in the wrong direction inches of the ground), a brilliant slip catch by Tony Greig and an unbelievable catch by Brearley off the spinner at slips. It completely gives the lie to the feeling people seem to have that fielding standards today are far superior to what they were then. At least close in fielding was of terrific standards. And then some great bowling by Lillee and walker.
I remember someone arguing here once about Lillee being able to bowl only out swingers and that in-swingers were not in his repertoire. At the very end of this part, bowling in England's second innings, Lillee bowls a massive late in-swinger to trap Woolmer leg before. Its difficult to be certain whether the point of contact was inside or just outside the off stump but the beautiful, huge and late in swinger left Woolmer completely foxed. So much for people forming opinions purely on ... God knows what :)
An amazing 174 by the irrepressible Randall brings the down and out England back into the test

Enjoy

That was a fantastic clip. Seen a couple of particularly brilliant Sobers clips on Youtube in the past couple of days. He really was a brilliant cricketer, and comes across as a fantastic bloke too. That bouncer to Lillee was a beauty. Loved the commentary too, every time Sobers hit the ball the commentary would be the same "where's that going?....away to the boundary again". Quality stuff.

A lot of people have commented on how the speeds of bowlers in the 70's are exaggerated. Many are influenced by the speeds recorded in a "fastest ball" competition which was produced far below the best these bowlers produced regularly in match situations. Here is another of you tube's gifts for cricket fans and a gentle nudge for the sceptics :)

The fast bowlers of the 70's

Between 5'16'' and 8'22" of this video you see the most awesome example of persistent intimidatory bowling captured on camera in an international match. Its also the bravest display by an unprotected batsman that one can imagine. I cant see how even his basic instincts do not make Brian Close not get in line with each and everyone of these deliveries.

Awesome !!

The cricket ' bowled ' video on youtube is awsome. Awsome footage of the stumps going flying and the theme song which is eye of the tiger suits the video so well.

Have been on a bit of a Youtube surf today, can anyone remember this? Had no idea about it but had a chuckle at the West Indian player bringing out helmets to the groundstaff.

Also found a video of Brett Lee's huge six vs. Windies at the Gabba in 05/06. Unfortunately the cameras didn't pick up where the ball went so you can't actually see it go out of the park.

Edit: Oh, and David Hookes' 34 ball FC hundred.

Yep I was living in QLD and was at that match where it bucketed down. Crowds outside were crapping themselves, the size of the hailstones were massive. Pretty funny when Dean Jones runs out with helmets. Cars were damaged everywhere outside the ground and down Vulture street.

This was the hailstorm that ended our cricket season last year. We were doing the same thing as the groundstaff out there with the helmets tryign to cover the pitch. Was horrid.

Yeah, as Robelinda said, was Dean Jones.

Hookesy, WAFG (although I reckon McCurdy is probably still spewing about the not-out call when Hookesy was in the 90's). Was at the ground when he smashed 222not for East Torrens out of a team total of about 260-odd. Can only imagine what he would have done to attacks in a modern T20.

Provided they didn't bowl too quick.

Oh and Yallop = WAFC.

EDIT: Just found the scorecard from the Shield match, check the guy batting at number 4 in SA's second dig;

Does anyone know where there might be available any footage of Australia's tour to the WI in 1984?

In particuslr, I'm looking for anything from this test:

2nd Test: West Indies v Australia at Port of Spain, Mar 16-21, 1984 | Cricket Scorecard | Cricinfo.com

in which AB made 98* and 100*.
No footage exists thats professional, it was barely broadcast in the WI. News highlights at the time here featured some pretty average footage that was all over the place. The first good proper footage out of the WI I can find is of the Indian tour in 1989, in the years before that you just have stacks of footage with no commentary, or just one camera. Viv's fastest ton deserves a lot better picture quality, you can even see the ball. Ive got some of the NZ tour in 85 and its barely watchable.
