Wow.

Reminds me of this:
Sri Lanka v NZ 2nd test day 2 clip from 1st hr of play - YouTube

Go to 0:52.

If you compare the two, Malinga was around 146kph, and Akhtar looks waaay faster in that. Obviously comparing it this way is just not accurate, but it's crazy how much faster it looks to the naked eye compared to a 90mph delivery!
I remember reading an article in the guardian where the author mentioned was that this Akhtar yorker to Fleming was the fastest delivery that he had ever seen (he also said forget the speed gun because according to him it was way too slow to be only 92 mph)

Literally it was just see ball leave hand ---> hear noise ---> see leg stump has vanished entirely. Visually that's probably the quickest delivery I've ever seen.

christ it even looks quick on the replay.

The quickest that I've seen bowled Matt Horne. It was timed at 98mph and no one who has seen the delivery can doubt that.
Yeah, i remember that... IIRC that was part of the 6-fer akhtar got against NZ in the match where Inzi scored 329
akhtar bowled 3-4 NZ batsmen with inswinging yorkers in that spell, was just astonishing to watch

I don't think anyone can reasonably doubt the 95mph+ readings that came up in that spell.

haha.....yeah

I couldn't find that article where the writer thought it was the fastest delivery that he had ever seen but I could find this about the delivery

"Shoaib shook his head, returned to his run-up, and served up the ball of the match, if not the entire tournament. It was a yorker, 92mph and moving, and Fleming jammed his bat down on it about an hour too late. Leg stump went packing, the crowd erupted, the bowler celebrated."

I think the yorker to Fleming in 99 WC was faster than the 'world record' one to Knight ....
yeah awta

Akhtar was reportedly ill the day of the record but I recall that the deliveries/over(s) that he bowled prior to that delivery were timed at around 95mph and all looked like absolute rockets. The 100mph delivery probably appeared slower just because it was in a good spot to defend for Knight. I don't doubt that it was 100mph.

I'll take that as a no then

skidmark00 wants video of the Sri Lankan physio who used to sprint on and off the field. Any ideas what matches he did in? Bit rough to expect Rob to watch every SL ODI and find it......
