Still a lot of test matches to play before the year ends, but i had an idea that between now & then we can nominate players in various categories i.e openers, middle-order, Keeper, all-rounders, bowlers & by the end of the year decide on the final XI.

Based on performances so far this year this is what i've got

TEST TEAM:

OPENERS

1. Matthew Hayden
2. Virender Sehwag
3. Andrew Strauss
4. Wasim Jaffer

MIDDLE-ORDER

1. Ricky Ponting
2. Jaques Kallis
3. Mike Hussey
4. Rahul Dravid
5. Younis Khan
6. Mohammad Yousuf
7. Mahela Jayawardene
8. Inzamam-ul-Haq
9. Kevin Pietersen

ALL-ROUNDERS

1. Andrew Flintoff

WICKET-KEEPERS

1. Kumar Sangakkara

BOWLERS

1. Makhaya Ntini
2. Brett Lee
3. Mohammad Asif
4. Muttiah Muralitharan
5. Shane Warne
6. Matthew Hoggard
7. Steve Harmison

People are definately forgetting Shoaib's performance in the past English series ........
Apart from injuries whenever Shoaib was given the ball ,he did the job and not like worthless and almost lifeless work horse seemers ..

P.S :By Shoaib I mean Shoaib Akhtar !!

From the list provided I would take..

1 Mathew Hayden
2 Virendra Sehwag
3 Rahul Dravid
4 Ricky Ponting
5 Jayawardane
6 Mohammad Yousuf
7 Flintoff
8 Brett Lee
9 Warne
10 Murali
11 Ntini

There is a wicket keeper still needed. I dont think I would choose Sangakarra.

You have Jaffer in there, over but not Sehwag? You have ajayawardene and Yousef in there, but not Dravid? YOu also have Hoggard in there but not someone like Ntini (who is #2 on the bowlers list). Ntini I can understand if you leave out, since I like Hoggard..but still...

974 runs at an average over 60, with scores of 185 and 287 in the mix. What has he done wrong exactly?

And yet you pick Hayden and Sehwag...

Matthew Hayden 2006: 432 runs @ 39.27
Virender Sehwag 2006: 746 runs @ 46.62

One has been mediocre, the other has cashed in on two big innings - 254 and 180. Take those out and Sehwag has averaged 22.28.

Remove Sangakkara's two big knocks and he still averages 35.85.

Even if you're not convinced, you have to pick a wicketkeeper, and who deserves it more than he does?

wait for the end of the year guys....ashes is going to change lots of things

For two teams. You realize that there are seven other teams that don't play the Ashes, right?
