***Official*** India in South Africa

Dhoni is scoring runs, so why drop him?
He's played a couple of decent innings. But if he's to be considered as a long-term pure batting prospect in tests, he needs to go back and get runs under his belt in FC cricket and earn his spot because there are better batting prospects (based on FC averages) waiting in line. Same applies to Karthick if India chose to go with Dhoni.

If anyone that deserves to go to India right now for FC, it's Sehwag.

On a side note, Once Yuvraj comes back, I see it tough for both keepers being in the team

Ganguly/Uthappa (great domestic season)
From what we saw of Uthappa in the ODIs vs England, he seemed totally front-foot dominant and had very little of a back-foot game. Hope he's improved on that, or he'll be worked out quite easily.

Isn't first-class cricket merely one avenue of proving your credentials at the highest level? We look at performance in first-class cricket simply to get an idea of who is likely to score runs in test cricket. If someone is already scoring runs in test cricket, does it really matter if they've gone through the whole process of excelling in first-class cricket? In a sense, isn't first-class success the means (and not the only means) and not the end. Just some food for thought.

Agreed, but has Dhoni really been that succesful in Tests to earn a spot as a pure batsman? No, IMO. He's had the odd good innings under pressure, but largely scores of 15-25 and averages 30.

That was definitely an issue and I'm not sure if he's worked on it or not. He did score some runs in Australia (as did Gambhir, Badrinath and Sharma) but that doesn't necessarily indicate that his back-foot game has improved.

It should stop in less than an hour. It would be a fitting end if rain did wash out the day somehow. Rain + Bad light would negate the umpiring decisions. It's all "part of the game". Unfortunately, none of this will matter because it should stop raining soon. Crap.

Got home from cricket today 15 mins after the match started, switched it on and saw Pollock in. Needless to say I was confused

Been a good move.

On one hand, I want India to lose so our pathetic batsmen realize that they've blown it. Then again, you'd figure they should've realized it by now with our history of collapses.
On the other hand, I really feel bad for Sreesanth and co. who have bowled their hearts out and been let down like hell by the famed batsmen. Ridiculous.

Yup, far better move than sending in Sehwag for us. This guy actually knows how to bat sensibly.

Really OT, but is Paul Harris taller than Morne Morkel? He towers above his captain, and Smith is in no way a small man. SA seem to be debuting giants
