Just wondering fans of south african cricket how does this effect south africa's depth and first class cricket.Thats a lot of players now unable to play for south africa.

They'll have others, who're most likely better. I doubt half the Kolpaks would/will make much more than mediocre First Class players. And there has to be a reason they come over here in the first place...

Dunno, you'd have to have Pothas & Trott up there too IMHO.

The strength of sterling is going to be a big attraction &, IIRC, SA reduced their number of first class teams fairly sharply a few years back which means there are even fewer spaces for youngsters to compete for.

Er, not quite. They now have two levels of First Class cricket - the franchise system PLUS the old provincial games.

In terms of anything professional you can live off, it'd be franchises or Kolpak county players. There's a reason the ones coming here are all 30+.

Edit to Brumby: IIRC Pothas competes on a Greek passport and Trott on an English. They were in England before Maros Kolpak even had touched a handball. ;)
