Exactly. Malik may not be the best batsman in the world but he is a fighter to the core and thats what we need.

So basically you believe Pak should continue with 2-10 pattern.

Salman Butt has been a massive disappointment. I really predicted good things from him, and whilst I still think he has a big future in the limited overs game, and he's clearly still young, his test career looks like it won't be taking off for a while.

It would be interesting to see Afridi given a go at opening. Im not saying he would be a success but he could not do worse than the current guys and he would give England something to think about at the top of the order.

Would probably fail but worth a go given the current situation.

Interesting . I some what agree with this . But I guess Hafeez has been under - rated . He has a good technique . Taufeeq is just plain ridiculous at times ...

Same here, but its so mind boggling to see him struggle so much after such a promising start against Aus in his first ever series. I remember Ian Chappel mentioning that he has not seen any other opening bat apart from Michal Vaughan who handles him so well in Australia.

Well Imran Farhat and Mohammad Hafeez to open the innings for Pakistan in the final test for Pakistan. Salman Butt and Taufeeq Umar sent home after dismal performances in the Headingley test.

Pardon me, but why have you got both Shoaib and Malik in the team? Is Malik batting at two places? Or do you have Shoaib Akhtar opening? Good attempth, though.

As for Afridi, he's got a lot of value as a stock spinner, but since they've already got Kaneria, there may be a problem playing two leg-spinners, but at six/seven/eight, he can be quite destructive, which counts. There may be remarks made about his technique and shot-selection, but that's the concern of the likes of Younis, Yousuf and Inzamam, not him. He's not such a good choice as an opener, though.

We can make a long list of opening prospects for Pakistan who have been dumped after a short run. There was Imran Nazir, then Salim Elahi, then Yasir Hameed, the famous Taufeeq Umar (known as Toffee in some Indian circles), Salman Butt and Imran Farhat. What's the point in picking one prospect, giving him a short run, then dropping him, and repeating the process with the next? Not surprisingly, they've had bad starts way too often.
