oz_fan: I'm probably going to miss the next couple of polls. Assuming they are for the no. 5 batsman and the number 6 batsman/allrounder, can you please count my votes for:
5) Viv Richards (unless Hammond loses in the no.4 poll, in which case, I'll vote for Hammond)
and 6) Sobers.

If you're doing the bowlers, my votes go to Marshall and Lillee as the opening bowlers.
Sure, the opening bowlers (McGrath and Marshall) had already been decided before you posted. Lillee didn't make the poll as he was not chosen in the 1940-Present XI.

Here is how the side is looking currently.

1. Jack Hobbs
2. Sunil Gavaskar
3. Don Bradman
4. Wally Hammond (voting still in progress here)
5. Batsman (One of Lara, Viv Richards, Tendulkar, Headley or Sobers)
6. Allrounder/Batsman (One of Sobers, Faulkner and the runners up of # 5 poll).
7. Adam Gilchrist
8. Final Bowler (One of Warne, Murali, Barnes, O'Reilly, Spofforth, Larwood, Faulkner and Sobers)
9. Final Bowler (One of Warne, Murali, Barnes, O'Reilly, Spofforth, Larwood, Faulkner and Sobers)
10. Malcom Marshall
11. Glenn McGrath

I'll start the poll for the # 5 batsman once the # 4 tiebreaker finishes up.

outstanding team. am glad the process has worked well so far. of course we can replace any one of these names with another but cant significantly improve this team. i hope we manage to choose four bowlers who are capable of taking 20 wickets per test. then we can pat ourselves on the back.

Even JL could not manage that:ph34r:

mcgrath and marshall average 4.5 wickets each per test. barnes 7. murali 6. oreilly 5. and warne 4.5. since we know the opening bowlers if we choose the next two with the wickets/ test ratio in mind then we can at least be statistically confident of our attack bowling out any opposition twice in a match.

i'm not counting sobers' 2.5 wickets and hammond's 1 wicket per test since they average in mid to high 30s per wicket. we will use them only when the main bowlers neeed to rest or when we need to change a specialist bowler's bowling end during a game.

Good team, but maybe a front-line seamer short?? Are Sobers/Hammond really that good for first change bowlers?

What happens if it were a green-top? Would Barnes come in for Warne/Murali?

Sobers is good enough at first change IMO, but with two spinners in the side his all-round ability is lessened. Still would make my side as a batsman though.

Yeah Barnes would come in for either Murali or Warne on a green pitch.

Probably is one fast bowler short but I'm not sure you need a front-line 3rd seamer with the two greatest spinners of all time in your side. I usually include Imran Khan in my All Time side but he missed out on being in the running as he failed to be picked in the 1940-Present team which was how you qualified to be in contention for the All Time XI.

thanks to oz-fan for conducting the last few polls and to aussie tragic for running the earlier ones. i assumed SRT and Imran would make it to this team. they did not. but if we were to vote for a 12th man i am sure imran would come on top. this is a fantastic team anyway. took us 9 months to arrive at this. but it was good fun guys!!
