Jacob Oram's injuries continue

Does Jacob Oram warrant a place in the New Zealand team as a batsman only?

That article is dated 7th July, it was confirmed a couple of days ago that he does have a stress fracture of the back.
man that's such a shame. where did you find out that he has a stress fracture from?, as i haven't seen it or heard about it over the last few days.

I can't see oram making the one day side unless he bowls,it will effect NZ's chances at the next world cup as on batting alone you wouldn't pick him.
I would have him in the test side, just a suggestion with his injury proneness he maybe better off taking up off spin.

Mark waugh had a back problem thats why he changed to off spin, tom moody took to off spin late in his career too.

If Michael Papps gets a place, it's no contest. Oram has made some of the best innings I've seen from a Kiwi, and I never felt comfortable with him at the crease when NZ were here in the summer of 2004.

Who was it claimed he was better than Flintoff?
I read recently that Papps looked very poor and ordinary in South Africa - not sure where he currently stands in the order of things. New Zealand tend to have a bit of batting down the bottom with the likes of Franklin and Vettori anyway, so a hitter like Oram at number six might be useful, particularly with the retirement of Cairns (although I presume NZ have had to make do without him enough over the last few years).

EDIT: Sorry, misread your comment about Papps - just backs up my point.

Oram told New Zealand Television that he had seen the comments about him not being able to bowl again but said there must have been a mix-up as his rehab is going well according to specialists. Oram went on to say that he doesn't even want to consider being a batsman only and is committed to returning to the Black Caps line-up as an all-rounder
I wonder whether he has seen the comments here on cricket web??
Fingers crossed that all the rehab goes well as we desperately need an all rounder for the balance of the team and James Franklin is not quite there yet.
