He finished off getting 86 in 300 mins with a S/R of 42 lol. Not much improvement.
At least he ran more singles than he hit boundaries. Yashpal Singh has scored 65, of which only 17 are between the wickets! He's got a massive score behind him, so he should accelerate tomorrow. The North captain should give his bowlers more time to bowl East out twice, unlike last time against Central.

A superb 133* from AS Yadav picked South Zone up to a respectable 266 after Ganegama had ripped through the middle order. North Zone looking reasonably good at 252/4 after half centuries from Gambhir and Yashpal Singh.

Arjun Yadav (a.k.a. Shivlal Yadav Jr.) was once a Challenger Trophy player, turning out for India B. His role in the team is not clear, even when he is captain. He bats at six or seven in nearly every match and bowls only occasionally, but doesn't support the strike bowlers much. One may say he's in the South Zone side (if bold enough, the Hyderabad team) because he's a star-son. That's an exceptional innings he played today, but after a very, very long time. He'll silence his critics only by more consistent performances with the bat and regularly bowling for his State/Zone side.
Isn't this the same guy who charged at Ambati Rayudu on the field when the latter accused the formed of being in the team only because of his father's influence?

That's the same person. He repeatedly heckled Rayudu after the latter left the Hyderabad team and played for Andhra, and Rayudu responded with that bold claim. Then came that infamous incident.

Pretty good batting perforamce from North Zone. And East Zone already lost 2 wickets. North Zone should win this easily.

Kaushal Silva scored 50, offering the Lankans an option for the position of wicketkeeper. It remains to be seen how good a keeper he is. Chamara Silva, prospect from the past, scored a 50 as well. South's top bowler was Kaushik Reddy, with four wickets, while the better-known Yo Mahesh got three. Sreesanth disappointed with just two, but the load on these bowlers was greater, sicne they were a man down, as they bowled out Sri Lanka A for 325. South have not lost any wicket yet, but that foolish experiment of opening the innings with Dinesh Karthik still continues.

In that other match, North amassed 504 with a surprise top score form Joginder Sharma. Spies may be reading this thread and relaying the content to the North Zone camp, as Yashpal got out after adding 24 runs (including two boundaries and still more dot balls) and Joginder Sharma cut loose. His 122 had 18 fours and three sixes, but he's thankfully played out fewer dot balls and scored at a strike rate over 74. Gagandeep and Nehra contributed in bits later on and then took two early wickets. For some reason, all of Ganguly, Shukla and Gavaskar didn't bowl, as Lahiri and Dinda bowled as many as 79 overs between them, and the other bowlers, 19 and 27. Ganguly, Rohan and part-timer AJ only chipped in 19.

South Zone currently have a lead of 107 runs with 9 wickets in hand after KD Karthick disappeared for 95. Robin Uthappa is on 64* and has been joined by VVS Laxman who will be hoping for a decent score.

East Zone are still attempting to chase down the big first innings total that North Zone put together, they are 110/3 with Sourav Ganguly amongst the runs, currently on 58*.

Quite a strong batting performance by South Zone thus far. Karthik just fell short of his century, but Uthappa looks poised for a ton of his own. Laxman is giving him company and he would be keen on being among the runs today.

The highlight of the day's play came from Sourav Ganguly, scoring a well-paced century against North Zone. He's currently playing on 100 and considering this is his first big knock since he got dropped from the national side, he must be roaring with confidence. It's too early to tell, but if he does make a comeback, this could well be the turning point.

I was just talking to my roommate about the bizarre possibility that we could end up back to square one for the World Cup.

1) If Sehwag's inconsistency continues and the selectors get frustrated, they have to opt for Gambhir, Uthappa or Ganguly. Experience may take Ganguly through if he scores heavily in the domestic circuit over the next few months.

2) Yuvraj could miss the World Cup if he opts for surgery on his knee. Selector SLV Raju has also indicated that this is the last chance for Kaif and Raina and that Ganguly and Laxman have a chance, so we could see the selectors going for Laxman finally to fill the huge void left by Yuvi's absence or even to replace Kaif or Raina.

3) Kumble is already back in the one-day squad and in the Caribbean pitches, we would probably play both Bhajji and Kumble. Welcome back Anil bhai ...

4) Zaheer has also made his comeback and with Pathan looking sketchy, Agarkar injured, Munaf making me nervous and Sreesanth not a sure thing, he could well be part of the pace attack.

That would potentially mean a World Cup lineup of .....
Ganguly, Tendulkar, Laxman, Yuvraj, Dravid, Dhoni, Pathan, Agarkar, Kumble, Harbhajan, Zaheer

After all the fuss with Chappell-Ganguly, having real athletes in the field, going for youth all the way and what not, wouldn't it be hilarious if we ended up with the same old folks?

Alright, hopefully it doesn't get there and the current team gets back in good form. Hmm, I need sleep now.

South strikes back! At 333/4, Karthik scored 95 and Uthappa went past 100. Ganegama is their leading bowler once more. The final day looks interesting.

Ganguly's century notwithstanding, East don't look like they'll get a lead on North. Nehra picked up two wickets but the excess of no-balls from both teams (nearly every bowler in North) is worrying. It's not Chappell's fault if the material he gets is so faulty. How on earth Joginder picked up this bad habit is puzzling, because he's not a bowler known to overstep, unlike Ganguly or VRV Singh.

Great batting from Kartikh and Uthappa...both of them would be considered in front of dada.

Anyone know when the next match taking place in Delhi is? I might consider going to watch it.

Oh well...Sri Lanka A are off the hook at 130/4. I had last seen them at 87/4. Laxman is now bowling offbreaks. Dinesh Mongia has competition. Clearly, South are a bowler down.

As for North, the two points are likely as East is at 294/9. Ganguly was out long ago, snared by the less famous (and less lucky) discard and one-time India prospect Joginder Sharma. Nehra has three wickets till now, while Rajesh Sharma and Gagandeep Signh, two each. The second spinner, Vishal Bhatia, also took one wicket. Both scores are at lunchtime.

There will be a Ranji match from 23-27 November and one in the first week of December. Will you be there then?

Did North miss the follow-on? They're batting again. They should declare at a lead of 250 with 50 overs to spare, then attack from all corners.

I'd say Sharma is still a India prospect and might be one in the future as well. Tough to use the term "one-time" for someone who's still only 23 years of age. (I think?)

Beat me to it. Delhi face Tamil Nadu in that opening match and it should be a good one to watch. You'll see the likes of Gautam Gambhir, Shikhar Dhawan, Ashish Nehra and Ishant Sharma in action for Delhi and young prospects such as Subramaniam Badrinath and Vijaykumar Yomahesh on the other side.

Whatever it takes!!!
nice to see Kaarthick, Uthappa and Ganguly get among the runs. But both wickets seem to be good batting wickets from the reports that I have read.
