OK, so they're a day early, but I'm a bit busy tomorrow, so thought I'd have my guest slot today instead.
None of Archie's usual gubbins today, just the awards.
Best of The Best
1. Shahid Afridi Award for (Best post of the week) Like an innings by the great man, it does not have to be very long, to be great viewing. And the Winner is: SJS for this, an objective view of India's first major away win in 20odd years
2. Shane Warne Award for (Best thread of the week) Like his bowling it must be interesting but just like his private life it can also be controversial. And the Winner is: LongHopCassidy for this, it's not from this week strictly speaking, but it came back to life this week, and would surely have featured had we been giving out the awards when he started it. An interesting thread where people are not just posting one word votes, but justifying their votes as well - top work.
3. The Skull Award (Funniest poster for the week) Just like the king of the one liner Kerry O’Keefe, can also be serious. And the Winner is: andyc for this, might not be everyone's humour, but it took the mick out of 2 of the forum's less popular characters without being offensive!
4. The Sobers Award (Most varied poster of the week) The true all-rounder of CW you must be able to contribute to a number of threads. And the Winner is:
Silentstriker - he seems to keep popping up everywhere this week.
5. Tony Greig Award (Worst prediction of the week) Will he ever live down that ‘We will make them grovel’ prediction re- the West Indies? And the Winner is: Some blithering idiot for this, for one week only I've gone out of the Cricket area and in fact out of this week's predictions, becuase it is so far off the mark!
6. Inzamam Award (Vaguest poster of the week) We are not sure what he his talking about, but we hope he knows. And the Winner is: Silentstriker for this, answers on a postcard as to what it means, please!
7. The Sir Geoffrey Award (Most knowledgeable poster of the week) We were going to call this the Richie Benaud award, but after speaking to Boycs, he assured us he new twice as much as Richie. And the Winner is: SJS, manages to balance serious and jokey posts whilst conveying the knowledge he's gleaned over many a year.
8. The Bradman Award (Overall CW poster of the week) Simply the best no matter what the debate or criteria. And the Winner is: Samuel_Vimes. An unsung member of the forum here, and one who adds a lot in spite of his obvious disadvantages (ie being Norwegian)
9. Agarkar/Mohammed award for ('At least their trying' award)
just like the players this award is named after, they may not be quite good enough for any other award, but at least we remember them. And the Winner is: Silentstriker - he keeps complaining about not winning anything, so he can have this one for keeping on trying, making him a triple winner somehow!
10. The Patrick Eagar award for great photography, because we have named this award after the greatest cricket action photographer, it will only be awarded when someone reaches a high standard of snaps. And the Winner is: Langeveldt of course - any picture of the great AA makes it a non-contest!
11. The SS award for the biggest …….(I am sure most of you will know what this award is for): Nobody this week, mainly because England didn't have a game so there wasn't so much cricket-related whining...
