Double Standards.

I am angry at the double standards againsts Irish players. County teams are forcing some Irish players to miss the match against England, because they need to replace the players playing for England against Ireland. It's a disgrace. Even though Ireland aren't a very big cricketing nation exactly, the fact is that the players should be allowed to represent thier own country, and should not be discriminated against just because the country isnt very talented.

And on the topic of that.

Shut up alright.

The player's are signed to the counties and therefore it's the counties decision, just because the Irish government won't stump up the money for central contracts doesn't mean you can blame the counties.

Hmm, counties paying a reasonable wage vs Ireland paying expenses...

Tricky choice for someone wanting a career that one isn't it?

I thought counties were obliged to release players as it's a full ODI?

Although I suppose they could strongly suggest a player miss it. A la Fergie/Roonie.

This same thing happens in Rugby League, and is geting news here with the international between Great Britian and the Kiwis scheduled for later this month with many NRL clubs refusing to release kiwi players for the game, thus meaning it's virtually a Kiwis C team that is getting put out.

Surely the "international" game should take priority over a domestic match in all sporting codes? Why shouldn't it?

But, to be fair, in some cases there the NRL players would have to miss 2 games in addition to flying halfway around the world twice. What's the point of paying a player's wages if he's going to go missing in the middle of the season, risk getting injured (and thus missing the rest of the season) thousands of miles away and come back jetlagged anyway? Clubs pulling players out of the Tri Nations (a la Wests with Marshall last year?) at the end of the season is different, mind.
