    England's all time Number 1 one-dayer

    Geoff Boycott
That must be what is known as a sharp attack of dramatic irony.

ODI all-rounder was our Geoffrey! Played as our fifth bowler in the World Cup final.

Got absolutely taken apart by IVA, mind.

In serious answer to the question, possibly Hick?

    Pietersen. Already!

We don't exactly have a glittering history of ODI batsmen - KP will probably end up top of the pile by long way if he carries on like this.

    It wasn't a question, it's a fact.
All International players are given a number in the order they appear for their Country. Geoff Boycott played in the first One-Day International and if there's more than one player making their debut in the same match it goes on alphabetical order. Hence Sir Geoffrey will always be Number 1, and he has the tie to prove it.

Having had a good laugh at the expense of good old Boycs, he would probably walk into the current One Day squad. There can surely never have been an England squad with so many non-international standard players in it. Partly because of injury, but the lack of star quality is quite frightening.

Our best one day player? It depends really, if your talking about batting or bowling, or talking about an all rounder. Again having not been around long, the greatest one day player I have seen is Tresco, as daft as it sounds. he's a consistent performer with the bat, doesnt let you down often, and has hands like buckets.

As regards all time, im not too clued up on my cricket from the past, so ill leave it with you.
