Not sure how I feel about NZ trending towards becoming the SA expat XI by time of the 2031 World Cup.

Dane Cleaver has also been putting up some respectable numbers in domestic cricket and seems to have been on a couple of A tours, so possibly offers competition for Seifert, Blundell and Phillips. Never watched the guy, so can't comment on how good he is compared to those just mentioned.

Christian Leopard has had big wraps on him for a while, though he's struggled to establish himself in domestic cricket so far. If you include saffer imports, Devon Conway had an incredible season for Welly last year and will be completing his residency requirements next year.
Leopard had a very good U19 World Cup in 2016 didn't he. Pity he hasn't kicked on. Among the veterans, a lot of others here were bullish about a Hamish Bennett recall, he could still be a medium term option if the selectors decide to manage Boult and Ferguson's workload.

Boult has just turned 30. Also considering that he is legitimately in the top 3 list of our greatest bowlers along with Haldee and Bond, he is a national asset. Would be wise to really give him a rest and save him for the big matches that lead up to tournaments. With 3 LO tourneys in the next 4 years and a test championship, I believe we will see a lot fresh new faces. Exciting times.

not sure what to make of these imports. on one hand, you get wagner but most of these blokes end up being cameron 'will play for nz in 2 years' merchant who fail miserably then disappear.

the best ones, wagner excepted, have been guys who arrived with little fanfare in their early 20s and come good much later in their careers like elliott and cdg.

wellington in particular have wasted spots on a lot of nobodies like stewart rhodes and the like.

There was also Myburgh who finished his qualification period in 2010 and promptly moved to country cricket just when we really could have used a decent middle order bat.

The current homegrown talent pool is probably the best I've seen in the last 3 decades, but NZ still needs any help it can get. During every cycle there will be guys like Matt Quinn or James Fuller or even Craig Cachopa who'll move at the first chance of a long-term county gig.

Among the "imports" I can recall who turned out for internationals, here's a list and ratings. Not sure if any names missed, but overall decent success rate I'd say.

Wagner - 10
Elliott - 8
Twose - 7.5
CdG - 7
Brownlie - 5
Ronchi - 4
Patel (DN) - 4
van Wyk - 3

Is Ronchi really an import as he was born in NZ?
Possibly stretched the definition of import there, but included him on the basis that when he moved back to NZ his career was pretty much played out in and for Australia. Will Somerville could come under this category too?

Nah NSW wanted to keep Somerville, he had a really good season. He moved back to NZ for a sniff at an international opportunity but it was a pretty different situation to Ronchi who had already played for Australia and really did have a dead career as he was going to be delisted by his state.

JFC ... they’ve updated the Ross Taylor profile on cricinfo.

I feel like a part of me has just died.

RIP “Ross Taylor could be just what New Zealand need in the wake of mass departures from the batting line-up” 2006-2019.

Not Terrible
Does it now read "The Boss was exactly what New Zealand needed in the wake of mass departures from the batting line-up"

It does actually haha. “In the mid-2000s, he was just what New Zealand need ...”

They could have at least changed it to “needed”.

The entire article looks like it was written by a 12 year old with dyslexia.

"Back in Test cricket, a career-best 290 came against Australia at the WACA in late 2015 and in 2019 added a third double century to his tally with 200 against Bangladesh."

"Although the body started to cause some issues, he remain key to the one-day side as they began the next four-year cycle when Williamson took over the captaincy from McCullum."

"One of his finest innings came against England, in Dunedin, in 2018 when he was batting on one leg due to injury and scored an unbeaten 181 to a big chase."
