Always liked the look of Wheeler and Ed Nutall's bowling. Although I haven't heard anything about them both in a while. Wheeler in particular after that australia bashing.
Went to the T20 final and he wasn't even in the Central starting line-up, Nutall looked interesting.

Can't remember our U20 bowlers except the spinners and Allen from last year. Hoping for a team/grade that produces the year of Kane, Southee, Boult, Anderson etc and blood them into the squad quickly.

Steady seems to like to give young guys opportunity more than Hesson, IMHO

Philips looks out of favor lately as well, wife said she could see Seifert progressing, not Phillips though.

I was surprised that they made the rules like knocking the ball into the boundary is play on, instead of deadball, like it's so obvious, even most players know not to run after touching the ball.

So if it was 6 off 2 balls and they ran two and knock the ball to the boundary and the umpires were headless chickens again and gave it 6, they could have won the world cup that way. The game surely doesn't need that, would be a laughing stock in non-cricketing countries.

Kinda like unintentionally elbowing the ball into the net in soccer and play on.

and they went with boundaries over wickets as the tie breaker, I was like WTF. and 1 super over tie and it's end game, intead of keep going like soccer or basketball or baseball or tennis...........even rugby league gives you 2 halves for golden points before calling it a draw. We sat there all day surely they can spend another 10 minutes of extra super over....

in saying that we could have won with a few more moments of awareness or taking chances (Boult catch, Neesham 4 balls to replicate Elliot...)

and to be fair I almost threw up when Hussan said Eng deserved to win the cup seconds after they won. F***. more like Eng had all the luck to win the cup

Very true, it is the fine print which they have decided to go with as a means of separating the 2 teams.

Very poor

Thanks for getting in touch

Nuttall's had a ton of injuries in the past couple of seasons, and has barely played. Shame, Bond rated him really highly when he first came onto the scene.

Talking more about our young pacers, guys like Ben Sears, Zak Gibson, Matthew Fisher....sure hope they can crack into our A team, and perhaps the seniors as well. These dudes have got decent wheels.

Ben Sears looks enormously talented, just needs a club that'll put a little work into him and give him some game time (so not Wellington). It's pretty ridiculous that Zak Gibson has played 13 first class games and Sears only 1. Kinda wish he'd move up north to Hamilton to be honest.

And fisher? Just checked his cricinfo profile, no matches played other than the u19 wc ones last year. I guess they just haven't updated it. Or has just stopped playing or something....

Hasn't played for any teams other than the nz u19's. I have heard that he's played for waikoto valley

But since the next world cup is in India, I'd like to know the lads in our spin department.

Sodhi
Sants
Kane
Rachin
Ajaz (really do believe he deserves a run in the limited overs setup)
Somerville (eh too old to consider but did well in that historic pak test)

Anyone else you guys could see making it to our seniors setup?

Another bowler who I think we tend to forget about but who has a lot of potential (at least in one day cricket) is Jacob Duffy. The guy has been playing forever and is still only 24. He's got a fantastic list A record, definitely one to give a decent run in the next 12 months or so.

Ajaz's list A record is pretty garbage, very much see him as more of a subcontinent tour specialist. I think if we play 2 spinners at the next World Cup it'll be Sodhi and Santner. I think they're as good a spin combo as we can realistically hope for (and they've done alright on NZ's last couple of limited overs assignments in India).

Was feeling a bit miserable about the next World Cup yesterday, but taking a look back at our last few series in India, we've actually been really competitive - qualified top of the group for the semi's in the 2015 world T20, lost a back and forth series 3-2 in 2016 and narrowly lost another 2-1 in 2017. Depending on how how Guptill and Taylor go over the next few years, there's enough there to be hopeful about, which is something we all kinda need at the moment.

I saw Jacob Duffy's name and video on this forum 4 years ago lol, hope he gets a shot in the BC team. It's a new start, don't want to miss the next Fergey or Kane and give them to...tennis NZ.

Bowlers seem to come to Hamilton or go to Central and do pretty well, hoping those guys transfer if injuries or lack of form constantly bog them down.

Wonder if Anderson's just lacking game time, or is seriously affected by injuries? He looks about twice the size now. I think he was our opening bowler in the T20 in India and did really well.

Maybe Blundell will get a go at ODI as well, he was in form but got no game time.

We need a new batting coach too, calling Baz now lol

Can’t really see any specialist spinners other than Santner, Sodhi being in the mix with Ravindra being an all rounder and back up from Kane. Pace bowling specialists a bit different though with at least a dozen prospects. Boult and Ferguson should be certainties and Henry pretty close with back up potentially from Southee (ugh), Tickner, Jamieson, Milne, Kuggs, Nuttall, Wheeler, Duffy, Sears, Nathan Smith.

Most teams look pretty similar with mine being
1 Phillips/Seifert
2 Young
3 Kane
4 Nicholls
5 Latham
6 Neesham
7. Ravindra
8 Santner
9 Henry
10 Ferguson
11 Trent

Not sure who the best keeping option out of Latham/Seifert/Phillips would the thoug

I think Southee will be arranged to focus on Tests especially if Henry has finally nailed his position which he was suppose to do 2 years ago.

Does Will Young keep?

Seifert probably will play a Baz role so probably better for the knees for him to keep than Latham who bats long in the middle or tests =P

Finn Allen wouldn't be a bad shout. Not sure about ravindra at 7...him at 7 feels wasted. Good opening/top order option. Need a blaster at 7. A more consistent blaster than cdg lol

Anderson has had a horrendous time with injuries, which really isn't at all unusual for him. Apart from that little gap between the 2013/14 and the 2015/16 seasons he's never been able to consistently stay on the paddock for long. And yeah, he's had some problems with weight which isn't that surprising given how much time he's spent out of the game in the past few years. Still an immensely talented player and one who could definitely make a difference in 2023 IF he's able to stay fit. Hopefully he can look to Jimmy's remarkable career turnaround for some inspiration, as he's the most talented natural ball-striker in the country. Could you imagine if an in-form Anderson had faced up to that last ball from Archer? It'd still be coming down.

Allen was great in the U20 WC!

Seifert blasted a couple of 6s in the final over in his debut at No.7....Baz was quite good closing before right?

Keeper position definitely a question mark. For a specialist keeper in the short term at least, blundell would play. Neither Latham or Seifert are convincing enough...would love for seifert to purely concentrate on batting, golden talent. Latham as well but for me he should just be playing tests anyways. But another part of me looks at the next wc in the subcontinent and says yeah....latham in the middle milking spin is ideal. Has already proved himself in India.

And I definitely think Henry has cemented his place and proven himself to everybody now. Fantastic in the knockouts. Southee for tests only and even there I would keep him on alert.
