Sounds like the NZ v England series in June is close to being agreed. Venues likely to be Edgbaston and the Oval.
Will that count for WTC points? The home series vs England we won that didn't have WTC points is hurting us eh? Otherwise definitely we would have already qualified.

No it's outside of the WTC. Also the 2019 test series not being WTC actually helped us - we would've only taken 67% of the available WTC points from that series which would've dragged our average down slightly.

Permutations for WTC

Aus v India ends 1-1
Aus needs a 2-1 win v SA
Ind needs a 3-0 win v England

Aus v India ends 2-1
Aus needs a series win v SA by any margin
Ind needs a 4-0 win v England

Aus v India ends 1-2
Aus needs a 2-0 win v SA
Ind needs a 2-0 win v Eng

If the India v England series were to be covid-cancelled, India needs the 1-2 scoreline v Aus to make the final. If the SA v Aus series is cancelled, Australia will need at least a 1-1 draw with India to advance.

What if England/SA win a Test, but India/Aus take the series?
Losing a test = 0 points, drawing a test = some points

so probably means they're out, though 3-1 vs England probably works in the 1-2 scenario?

Yep, 3-1 (75 pct points) is worth more points than 2-0 (67 pct points) under the WTC rules.

Most likely result of the Aussie tour Aus v India ends 2-1

India is a depleted side at the moment. They have done amazingly well with so many injuries but with limited personnel it is most likely they will lose the last test match.

Anyway, if the England series does go ahead in June who would we play? I don't like leaving out a spinner as English pitches can break up at the back end, but I just can't bring myself to pick Ajaz over Jamieson or Boult, so would probably go with:

Latham, Conway, KW, Taylor, Nicholls, Watling, CdG, Jamieson, Southee, Wagner, Boult

If Rachin builds on his A series form and his a bumper end to the season I could be seriously tempted to give him a game though.

If we make the final we definitely need a spinner as it is a 6-day match. The ICC won't want it over in 2 1/2 days so don't expect a very green pitch.
