BSNL EurAsia Series

That's really unfair for the Dutch team, how much would it cost to give contracts to a 16-man squad to stop players being unavailable?

And is the UAE team still full of ex-pats and hired guns?

£30,000 * 16 = £500,000 a year?

Quite a lot of money for a cash-strapped board, I'd imagine (but it is, nevertheless, the only way they're going to be competitive - professionalism is the way to go...)

As to prove that:

India A 248-0 (44 ovs). Uthappa 113*, Dhawan 127*. van Giezen 7 overs for 26, everyone else has been mauled.

That loooks really good. Uthappa and Dhawan both have a very good chance of making the WC side and this may well be our next international opening pair (along with Dhiman).

Samuel_Vimes, is there anywhere on the internet I can find out about the matches/scorecards of this Eurasia Series?

http://www.cricketeurope2.net/CRICKETEUROPE/ had live coverage during the games.

To wrap up India A v Netherlands: van Giezen got cheap wickets at the end, running out Dhawan for 127 and having the rest caught (two behind). Captain Venugopal Rao didn't see the need to bat, as India A still made 311 for 4. RP Singh and VRV Singh then took three men for ducks, before Kervezee smashed 26 in a partnership of 32. He was bowled by Vikram, however, and Piyush Chawla cleaned up with three wickets as the rest fell cheaply. Buurman 53.

Whatever it takes!!!
yeah, feel sorry for the Holland guys. Even with their best team, they would have found it tough. Still, I think the India A Vs Pak A game on Friday should be a very exciting one. Hopefully, I will be able to watch it.

Good to see VRV getting 3 wickets, but not so good to see him going at more than six an over against a team like Holland A. Chawla continues to impress in the short form of the game, albeit against a weak opposition.

Better performances, but still defeats for the Europeans:

Ireland A v Sri Lanka A

John Mooney took four for 43, including Avishka Gunawardene bowled for 5 (big challenge ;) ) and Ian Daniel bowled for 6. However, after having the Lankans 154 for 7, Upul Chandana (46*) and Sajeewa Weerakoon (53*) feasted on the Irish part-time bowlers, after Boyd Rankin (5-0-27-0, 13w) had to be taken off.

Captain William Porterfield played 73, described as the "best innings I've ever seen him play" by the local Cricketeurope reporter, but Ireland A still went down by 87. Lacking depth, but that's natural with an A team.

Pakistan A v Netherlands A:

Pakistan A 306-4 (another rather poor bowling effort)
Netherlands A 183-8 (van Nierop 0, de Grooth 1  , van Bunge only 20, Buurman 29 seems to have found some batting form, Borren 45 but probably really slow, Kervezee 25 ), lost by 125 runs.

Not so good, when they ate up too many overs for their stand. They should have attacked when they passed 200, but waited all the way till the 40th over. Anyway, they're not the kind you would expect to play a blazing innings and hit some big sixes, but still a good show. We need to see that kind of performance maintained against superior A teams.

Imagine...if VRV Singh reduced the number of wides to just two in ten overs and didn't bowl any no-balls, that wouldn't be too bad. The coach, whoever it is, for the team that features him, should capitalise on his ability to get a burst of wickets (with or without a partner) and tone down his no-ball and wide problem. The little Sreesanth bubble may burst (he is, after all, a little too short, though a little taller than his more famous teammate) so VRV Singh shouldn't be ignored.

Wooohoo Sodhi picks up a wicket!!!
Sodhi was hardly used. He only got two overs to bat and four to bowl, but he's done rather well. Scored 22 rapid runs with one six in the final overs, thne picked up a wicket. If you've seen him bowl and bat, tell me what it was like, since I was not at home to watch that.

India A - Pakistan A Clash

Not only should this be an exciting match with an abundance of talent on both sides, but there are also plenty of current and future prospects involved here.

While Yasir Hameed remains a talented top-order batsman for Pakistan who repeatedly gets overlooked by the selectors, Robin Uthappa and Shikhar Dhawan represent the future of India's opening batting; it is too early to say, but we could well see these two putting up massive opening stands for the national team in years to come (Tendulkar-Ganguly v2, anyone?).

While Pakistani middle-order stalwarts (at least at this level) Hasan Raza and Bazid Khan will look to push their cases as Inzamam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Yousuf approach the end of their careers, Venugopal Rao is already in the selectors' frame and could well move ahead of Mohammad Kaif in the coming months.

The selection of Misbah-ul-Haq reminds me of the Mongias and Bahutules of India A side's in the past; perhaps the Pakistani selectors could learn a trick here by looking at their counterparts across the border. Under-19 star Rohit Sharma and domestic stars Jhunjhunwala and Badrinath represent the new direction of youth in Indian cricket, even at the lower levels.

Umar Gul and Rudra Pratap Singh will both try to strike some rythm and consolidate themselves as national regulars, while the likes of Yasir Arafat and Vikram Singh would do well to take advantage of the extra push the respective selectors seem to be intent on giving them.

Finally, we will see several talented spin all-rounder prospects in action: Mansoor Amjad, Piyush Chawla and Ravindra Jadeja. Chawla has already received his national cap once and the others would be keen to follow suit in the coming years.

50 to Khurram Khan, UAE 4/165 off 36 overs. This could get embrassing if we don't pull our finger out soon.
