ICC Test World Cup?

The Wheel is Forever
What if the top eight sides participated in a test tournament (once every six years)?

The format would be like this: Each team would play one game per ten days (upto three per month).

One point for win, half point for draw, 0 points for loss. 1/2 extra points by winning by an innings (or something like that). Ties to be decided by run-rates or some other measure.

At one time, there would be two games going on at the same time. 1v4 means 4 plays in 1 country (i.e New Zealand plays in Australia) and 4v1 means Australia plays in New Zealand.

Group A
1. Australia
2. India
3. West Indies
4. New Zealand

Group B
5. England
6. Sri Lanka
7. South Africa
8. Pakistan

Each team would play every other week (one week of rest after each test). So there would be six matches per team in the first round (one home and away). The top four in the second round, same thing, so six more and then four games (two semi final and two final).

It would take a very long time. Like nine months total, but it would be great.

Thats a lot of games and take a lot of times, but if we had this every five years and made it so that teams don't have to have full tours anymore to the countries they've played (but they could if they wanted, like the Ashes, or trips to other countries)....this would dramatically decrease the amount of cricket.

I think this would be absolutely fun to watch. Every six years, everyone would be glued to the scoreboards (even more than the ODI WC). Sustained excellence, especially from the semi-finals round when the top teams go at it.

Of course, this will never happen as it would represent a decrease in money for everyone involved. And that this is a logistical nightmare (and probably an impposibility as well). It would last like 9 months...But its fun to think about!

Cricketer Of The Year
what you could do( and you sorta said) is doing this 1 year instead of a normal tour season.
