I remember a Duleep Trophy match I watched 10-15 years ago and Kapil Dev was playing and I was just happy to see him field/bowl. Didn't care how many wickets he took or how many runs he scored.
So Dravid going out and getting a golden duck would make you happier than watching India win?

And what are the chances of Dravid getting a Golden Duck ? And based on last 5 years of results, how many test wins have come without Dravid's contribution ?

Weren't you syaing before that keeping Tendulkar in the team was putting the individual before the team, yet now you say that Dravid is the most important thing.

Do you understand the difference between dropping and resting a player or are you saying that Dravid isn't the most important player in Indian test team right now and doesn't deserve to be in the team ahead of Robin Uthappa ?

Tendulkar isn't our top Test player now. Kaif had to miss out because Tendulkar couldn't be dropped for reasons best known to some folks. Tendulkar's presence in Tests made our test team weaker(last few series), Dravid's presence in Tests/Odis makes our team stronger.

First of all, small cities like Jamshedpur get one match in 2-3 years and even then most of the tickets are sold before the team is announced, so how are the fans going to know who is playing and who is not ?
because Rahul Dravid was not even named in the SQUAD, and that happened a while ago. it's not the end of the world.

And how will the game be competitive if players like Flintoff, Dravid sit out ? Dont you think these two add a different level competitiveness to a cricket match ? TBF, the current series has been boring and very one sided and I dont think it was a top level series at all.
Yeah so cricket teams or cricket players cannot operate on the whims of fans in one city all the time. Are you saying Tendulkar should play despite his shoulder injury just because every Indian fan would love to watch him in action? Hell no, he should take care of himself and ensure that he has a future in Indian cricket.

There really isn't much of an issue here, yes there's disappointment for the fans but if they have a brain, they'll realize that it's not a big deal.

Do you understand that Indian cricket fans don't and shouldn't control the national side?

Yes I do. But the question is, is it fair or not to drop top players like Dravid for a particular game.

You goto watch a movie, knowing it is directed by Steven Spielberg with Tom Hanks and Jodie Foster in it , after you buy the ticket, you find out that it has Toby Mcguire in it with Christina applegate. Obviously tickets are non-refundable and theater people tell you that moviegoers should understand that they dont and shouldn't control casting of a Spielberg movie. ;) ;)

No it's not the end of the world man, it's just a discussion. It is just a question of being fair, when are we going to get our next game, two years from now, what if Dravid doesn't play again, Beside we hardly win any game @ Jamshedpur, having Dravid in the team gives us better chance of winning.

Wait how did the casting trasnform from Hanks & Foster to McGuire & Applegate? If it didn't transform, what kind of an idiot would assume that a Spielberg movie has Hanks & Foster in it even after knowing the real cast? Please, come up with a better example.

Two years from now, Dhoni will be skipper if you believe the media's twist on Chappell's praise.8-) Jamshedpur fans will forget about the ex-skipper by then, don't worry.

Btw, isn't it unfair to guys like Venugopal Rao and Robin Uthappa if the established stars keep playing no matter what just because fans want to see them. They're careers will never go anywhere like that. Everyone in Bengal would like to see Ganguly on the field, doesn't mean the team should play Ganguly.
