    What's Bracken done wrong

Can anyone tell me what Nathan Bracken did wrong to not get selected for the Bangladesh tour? Is he injured or has he falled out of favour?

    Welcome to the boards.

He`s done nothing wrong, if anything, he`s done everything right recently. The selection of Johnson kills me. What was the key in the Ashes? Swing. Who`s Australia`s number-one swing bowler? Gah.

I don't think it is what he did wrong its more about what others offer:
    - Clark: McGrath like bower
    - Gillespie: Experience
    - Johnson: Pace and Youth
The man, the mountain, the Mathews. The greatest all rounder since Keith Miller. (Y)

While Johnson is obviously a major prospect for the future and impressed recently with 10 in the Pura Cup final, Bracken definitely should have been picked. Obviously the selectors have him down as an ODI specialist now, but I don't think he needs to be limited to that. He deserves a decent run in the test side to attempt to claim his place at least, especially with McGrath out and one spot available.

Once more TEC, back it up. Please, go ahead. On recent form, what has he done wrong? He`s a different bowler from the one in the Tests vs India and you know it.

I think Gillespie is going to fire after getting this call-up, so Bracken won't figure much anyways with McGrath returning.

If picked, I reckon Gillespie will struggle big-time. If the Bangladeshis play him smartly, they`ll leave most outside off, where he is most dangerous IMO. Especially without the new-ball, Dizzy doesn`t have much. Good bowler, but won`t ever be like his old self.

I doubt Bangladesh will play him particularly smartly, though.

Anyway, Gillespie was quite dominant less than a year before the Ashes, on the Indian tour, and that was after he lost a bit of his pace and changed his action and run-up significantly. So I think he can still be an effective bowler at international level. Having watched him a reasonable amount in ING games this season, he's certainly been bowling better than he did during the Ashes. Worth a go ahead of Kasprowicz, who was okay against South Africa but didn't exactly set the world alight, and is probably a spent force at international level now.

I don't really have any issues with Gillespie or Johnson being looked at actually, but Bracken certainly deserves to be above them in the pecking order for the moment.

Fair call Sean. Gillespie is certainly a big force with the new-cherry, countless times he has done the damage with it. But later on, and at the end of ING matches, he has really struggled.

Whats he done wrong? Not take wickets!!

5 tests - 12 wickets at 42. Certainly not outstanding.

Apart from a couple of overs with the new ball or in ideal conditions he offers very little.

Johnson is a younger, fitter, faster and better model.
Only two states to be in - Queensland and drunk.

so what has he done since then? he had one successful performance in conditions where the ball was swinging and it was expected that he would succeed in those conditions especially when you consider the quality of the opposition batting lineup. in his other 3 innings hes taken 2 wickets.
and pray tell me why is he a different bowler from the one that played india? he still bowls with the same lack of variety, he still swings the ball only one way, he still bowls reasonably accurately and if anything his pace has for whatever reasons gotten worse since then.

With his limited domestic matches, he`s performed excellently in all of them. He`s up there with the best One-Day bowlers on recent form. He contained the batsmen in unhelpful conditions in Perth. And then he was brilliant against the Windies. What more do you want?
