As grim as that may look, things have actually improved a little bit in that respect over the past couple of seasons. In 2015-16 Miguel Cummins in 9th was the highest wicket taker of any pace bowler by a way. Don't really count Kevin Stoute's 120k wobblies as pace tbh

The WI always prefer pace bowlers. The selections show that you shouldn't place too much store on fc performances when comparing test records of players.

Jerome Taylor was a pretty good (intermittently very good) bowler in his prime, but there's no way he should be averaging 12 in a season of first class cricket now.

This exact sentence, or something very close to it, has been getting trotted out re. the West Indies every year for the last decade +

(speaking generally, not necessarily specifically the pace bowling thing)

They have been in decline now for 25 years. They havent even cracked the top three in that time. It seems a terminal.

But the WI can only be a LO competitive team.

The entire Barmy Army turned up to watch their team get beaten. I think that speaks alot.

We are not gonna beat anyone else.

Yes! WI have their own unique brand of cricket.

Ideally test cricket is best served by having WI, Australia, at least one subcontinent team and at least one of Eng/SA/NZ in top shape.

You need these teams representing different varieties of cricket to be strong for standards to be high.

Since WI got whitewashed in Pakistan and SA in 97/98, cricket has been missing a vital element. WI used to be crowd pullers, full of pace and flair and style. Cricket feels incomplete without their contribution.

I think they've actually had their resurgence and produced a top class cricket team worth of good players in the last few years. They just don't all play the same format at the same time.
