Somerset Sign Nixon McLean for 2003

Praising McLean like hell??? All I said was that he had a good FC record which was why he was attractive to an English county, he's proven. And I've looked through the thread and not once did I say McLean was the best bowler or praise him for that matter, I'm sure if you read through it you'll find that too. I only said McLean was more attractive to a county, never that he was a better bowler in tests!

Errrm...chill!

I think we all agree on his point, Mclean might be doing well at domestic level BUT is a failure at test level, as his average suggest, he will probably never get a chance to open an attack for the WI again!

I agree with Rik about Yohannan . I will definately assure that he will not play test cricket again. Nehrafan look at his Ranji trophy record. I played him in a local league game in Hyderabad and his figures were 1 for 80 of 20 odd overs. There are much much better Fast bowlers coming through in India than him.

I also would like to say a word about Nehra. He was nowhere near his best in ENGLAND. Please have a look at his bowling in WI AND ENG. He just didn't swing a ball in ENG. The same happened with VAAS. I just hope that he regains that swing.

And wo exactly are u? Indian CB chief selector???? So much so for ur assurances.
Someone as good as Gavaskar have described Tinu Yohannan as a very good propect and have been in favour of Tinu been played in test matches!!

A bowler is never judge by a single performance, thats just plain stupidity

Just because some disagrees with you, you can't ask who he is?

For the record Yohannen may play more Tests, but that is more about the lack of quality Indian pacers than his own ability.

I wouldn't mind betting that if Nixon McLean were Indian, he'd be in the team, and he'd also have a much better average than he currently has (as he won't be supporting a couple of reasonably useful bowlers who've recently retired)

Has anyone noticed yet that Nehra has actually got an average only slightly more than Zaheer? And Zaheer is supposed to be a really impressive bowler? Actually these 2 average not much less than Nixon McLean!

Ashish Nehra: 10 Tests 31 Wickets at 39.12
Zaheer Khan: 21 Tests 58 Wickets at 38.62
Nixon McLean: 19 Tests 44 Wickets at 42.56

Hmmmmm maybe we should stop bashing poor Nixon?

Thats foolish! It has nothing with DISAGREEMENT, the fact that Yohannan is in the 16 member squad and has impressed the selectors means that he will get chance in future!

Sorry, McLean would never make it to the Indian team.Khan is far better than McLean and he's being paired with Nath.India always goes with 2 spinners so there isn't any place for a third seamer!

For dummies who judge a young cricketer purely by his average.Ntini has an average of 37.07!! that is just better than that of Khan AND Ntini is the leading Pacer of SA team, a team that is reknowned for its fast bowlers!!

Rik

For the record I think Nitini is crap and only picked because of his colour

Erm, Pollock?

See Yohannan has been dropped from the squad and when they tour Newzealand there also he will not be picked in the squad. He has an average of around 40 in Ranji Trophy. And also u may say that he plays on flat tracks. Every bowler will be good when he plays in conditions known to him. You can see the records of Kapil, Shoiab , Srinath in Sub continent and away.

Those figures confuse me as to why India picked him. Surely there are better rookies about that this guy.

I don't know how they picked him too. There was not much talk of him before he was selected also.

First of all Tinu has been dropped from the Squad coz India are playing on home pitches, which are made for the spinners. Also, Nath is back making it imposibble for a third pacer to be in the team.

Secondarily, I never claimed Tinu is as good a bowler as Akhter or Kapil BUT now that u have come up with domestic matches stats i would like to point out that Waqar, Mohd Zahid, Sami and Waseem Akram had very ordinary stats at domestic level yet they went on and became great bowlers

marc71178

a) Waqar and Wasim didn't have poor stats.
b) Sami is by no stretch of the imagination a "great"
c) Who is Zahid? is it a typo?

If you consider these as poor then i don't know what you consider as good. I said he will not be picked because since he has been dropped he will now be picked on the basis of his performances which i think will not improve and there are also other good bowlers coming up such as Irfan and balaji.
