Have the 2007 one on the shelf but haven't read it yet and not sure if I'll ever get around to it (only bought it as it was pretty cheap), has anyone and is it any good?

To be honest, that is one of Perry's major faults. The number of basic errors that he makes is very poor. The second fault, and the more serious one, is that I have come to suspect he simply makes up stuff to suit himself.

Picked up A History of Australian Cricket by Chris Harte and Bernard Whimpress today and was also coincidentally given The Pictorial History of Australian Cricket by Jack Pollard today as well.

Is the Simpson effort a first edition? If not he was forced to delete the chapter in which he suggests that Meckiff not only chucks but knows he does. I have not read that book for many years, but I remember (I think) he lists Boycott as one of the new exciting fast scoring batsman

Its a reprint, so it doens't mention Meckiff. But he doesn't show any such qualms about sticking it to Charlie Griffith - I only got to the chapter about Griffith this morning on the train and the third line is along the lines of "after watching one ball from Griffith [as the batsman on strike for the first ball of the first test] I knew with absolute certainly - Charlie Griffith is a chucker." The West Indies, including Sobers in particular, cop quite a serve from Simmo.

Picked up A History of Australian Cricket by Chris Harte and Bernard Whimpress today and was also coincidentally given The Pictorial History of Australian Cricket by Jack Pollard today as well.

The Harte/Whimpress effort is definitely comprehensive, albeit little dry.

Ah, that's one of two golden fleece's for which I'm continuing to search. I've not been able to find it anywhere - its out of print, and I never see much Haigh in any second hand book stores (which tells you something in itself). One day I'll find a copy.

I think I can contain myself until you put it on the site. Considering he was still at the height of his career I was very surprised at how scathing Greenidge was about people who he still had to work with. I've never met anyone else who's read it.

After I read it, I looked it up in the 1981 Wisden, but they gave no clue as to the content

The Cricinfo Guide to International cricket 2008 is pretty good. When you are watching the tv, you don't always want to go on the laptop to see profiles of players. This is the second edition of the book and it looks like it will be an annual feature now.

Two Roebuck books - his autobiography and It Takes All Sorts.

Am half way through John Wright's Indian Summers and it has been an excellent book so far. A must read for any Indian fan or any one interested in Indian cricket.
