Battle of the Test Innings

LongHopCassidy

International Captain
Considering that we've battled to death everything else possible, this is the only logical choice.

I hope to have 64 innings to fight to the death.

Some I've already thought of:

VVS Laxman 281 v Australia, 2001
Garry Sobers 254 v Australia, 1971
Ian Botham 149* v Australia, 1981
Rahul Dravid 233 v Australia, 2003
Len Hutton 364 v Australia, 1938
Brian Lara 277 v Australia, 1992
Brian Lara 153* v Australia, 1999
Mark Butcher 173* v Australia, 2001
Graeme Pollock 274* v Austrlaia, 1969
Mark Taylor 144 v West Indies, 1991
Graham Gooch 154* v West Indies, 1990
Hanif Mohammad 337 v West Indies, 1957
Steve Waugh 200 v West Indies, 1995
Kim Hughes 100 v West Indies, 1981
Sunil Gavaskar 221 v England, 1979
Nathan Astle 222 v England, 2002
Viv Richards 117 v England, 1984
Don Bradman 334 v England, 1930
Don Bradman 270 v England, 1936
Brian Lara 375 v England, 1994
Brian Lara 400* v England, 2004
Ricky Ponting 156 v England, 2005
Greg Chappell 131 v England, 1972
Stan McCabe 187* v England, 1932
Stan McCabe 232 v England, 1938
Sachin Tendulkar 136 v Pakistan, 1999
Garry Sobers 365* v Pakistan, 1957
Sunil Gavaskar 96 v Pakistan, 1987
Adam Gilchrist 149* v Pakistan, 1999
Mark Waugh 116* v South Africa, 1997
Azhar Mahmood 132 v South Africa, 1997
Adam Gilchrist 122* v India, 2001
Dean Jones 210 v India, 1986

Other contributions would be most welcome.

Nathan Astle's 222, Christchurch 2002.

And possibly Crowe's 299, Wellington 1990/91.

Brian Lara 277* v Australia, 1992
Errr, Lara was run-out by a Damien Martyn/Ian Healy combo in that knock......

Speaking of which, this is the best I've seen. Could not have imagined batting being any better when I was watching it.

As far as back-to-the-wall knocks go, I didn't see Steve Waugh's 200 so I can't rate it but I thought Rick Ponting's 156 gave his some serious kool points.

Steve Waugh's 63* on that horror pitch in the test before the 200.

Allan Border's 100* to save the match in the West Indies in 1984. (the first innings 98 wasn't bad either)

Azhar Mahmood's 132 against South Africa in 97

Sunil Gavaskar's fourth innings 221 against England in 1979

Mark Taylor's 144 in the West Indies in 90/91

And definately Mark Waugh's 116 against South Africa in the fourth innings in 97/98

Glenn McGrath's 61 :p

The only one of those I saw and remember was Ponting's 156, and that was great

That wasn't a bad knock (I know; I watched it) but it was in a dead-rubber Test on a road of a deck........

There was a far better knock in that series, in fact; Ritchie RIchardsons's 182 at Georgetown.

It was in a team score of 265, against a lethal bowling attack, in the third innings... and it led Australia to a victory. I don't know if it was a road or not, but if it was none of the other batsmen managed to cash in.

It's a farce that Andrew Flintoff's 73 at Edgbaston isn't there. There's also an argument for Sehwag's Melbourne 195 (I think that's the innings I'm thinking of...).

i Think Gooch also made 154* against the WI at Leeds in 1991 out of a total of 252 against: Marshall, Ambrose, Bishop, and Patterson.
