World Cup side for New Zealand

krishneelz

U19 Debutant
I know its early but its good to get an idea of what an ideal side for the kiwis would be

NJ Astle - Experienced opener, good enough record, hopefully finds form
SP Fleming - Vincent is inconsistant and How is not proven yet, also good ave opening
PG Fulton - Proven at first class level, good technique, solid option at 3
HJH Marshall - Scored his only century in this position, quick between wickets
SB Styris - Good strike rate, averages 40 in this position, can pick up wickets
CL Cairns - Enigma of NZ cricket, bowling has suffered, great strike rate whilst batting
BB McCullum - Can do wonders down the order, his wicketkeeping is average at best
JDP Oram - Has potential with the bat, but his strength is in bowling with good economy
DL Vettori - Experienced and can keep it tight when bowling, can bat a bit
S Bond - New Zealands best pace bowler although he has lost a yard in pace recently
D Tuffey - First over wicket taking specialist, can be a good strike bowler for NZ

12th man - Vincent - Good fielder and can be NZ's backup keeper

Players on the fringe

Mcmillian - inconsistant, people were hoping for another roger twose with macca
Sinclair - good top order option, can hold innings togather, but poor strike rate
Mills
Franklin
Adams

Vincent's the best player there after Vettori, Fleming and McCullum. Should open with How.

By the way, weren't you the guy who threw his bat onto the neighbour's roof? Did you ever get it back?

No he hasn't.

He has always been 140-150 kph.

McCullum is an 'average keeper at best'? What? Over the past few seasons, he has been superb. Good enough to be named in the wider World squad.

Who were the people hoping for another Twose in McMillan? WTF?

My WC side:

1 Ryder, 2 McCullum, 3 Fleming, 4 Marshall, 5 Styris, 6 Vincent, 7 Cairns, 8 Oram, 9 Vettori, 10 Mills, 11 Bond, SS Adams

I think over the next few seasons, we will see the better of Fulton and How in the Test arena rather than ODI.

ive seen mccullum drop a few catches behind the stumps though this was a while back when new zealand toured australia. As for the cricket bat when i went back to new zealand i didnt see it on his roof so i assume its been terminated. It was one of those hadlee bats from k mart

Dont be suprised if theres a young man called Ash Newdick somewhere in the squad.

Lol in 2007? Todd Astle would be the only one at the Under 19 tournament who has any sort of chance of making the World Cup squad and even his chances are less than 5%.

What? I thought we were talking about all the world cups for all time!
Yes in 2007, he is one of the best young batsmen I've seen. If he doesnt make his FC debut this summer I will concede on this point.

I'd say our 15 man squad will look something like this:

1) Fleming (c)
2) Vettori (vc)
3) Astle
4) Vincent
5) Marshall
6) Styris
7) Fulton
8) Oram
9) Cairns
10) McCullum (w)
11) How
12) Bond
13) Mills
14) Adams
15) Franklin

Although I wouldn't be suprised if McMillan gets back in there.

He won't even get close. Bracewell isn't even trying Jesse Ryder out because he isn't experienced enough. He won't pick a rookie even if he does play for Wellington this year and perform well.

I agree though, he is a very good player. He will be a chance to make 2011.

Have you heard of Ronald Karaitiana? He used to be on McDonalds young entertainers. He made a century against Canterbury in the Under 19's the other day. Very, very good player.

He will probably be over 19 by the time the tournament starts.

I doubt it. He finished school last year I think. That would make him 18. Isn't the tournament in April?
