The Best and Worst of 2005

open365

International Vice-Captain
Blatantly copied of Cricinfo i know but here goes.

Your only allowed 3 things for each catergory

Best
  • Mike Hussey first century in test cricket
  • Brian Lara becoming the leading run-scorer in test cricket
  • England Winning the ashes

Worst
  • Taibu leaving international cricket
  • Failure in Multan
  • The not so super series series

Jono

Virat Kohli (c)
I'll have a crack.

Best:
- The awesomeness of the Ashes
- Bangladesh defeating Australia
- The resurgence of Pakistani cricket

Worst:
- Taibu's tragic end to his international cricket career. He deserved so much better.
- The Super Series being a flop, and Richard actually being right for once. :(
- From an Indian fan's perspective, the Chappell-Ganguly feud and the problems still flowing on from that turning point of cricket.

JASON

Cricketer Of The Year
Best

1 The Ashes
2 SL finding new quality spinners in Bandara and Weerakoon as support for Murali.
3 Freddie, Hussey, Rudolph, Hodge, Dhoni, Akmal,De Villiers etc... etc..

Worst

1 SL going down in Both tests and ODIs to India (an absolute hammering 6-1 and 2-0) and along with that tumbling down the rankings in both to reach the cellar dwellers in Windies,Zim and Bangla.
2 Non selection of Sangakkara for the Super Series Tests v Australia !!! :@ :@
3 Lack of youngsters coming through in Sri Lankan Cricket . No youngsters coming through to push the failing old horses out of Test and ODI team.
Also Murali struggling after being over used(by his Captain), possibly the beginning of his decline. [I hope I will be proven wrong in 2006]

Add to these the controversial umpiring that seems to plague Test Cricket , but despite this the failure of the ICC to use 3rd Umpires for LBWs and close catches , which seem to mar most test matches .

Suprised no-one has mentioned the stupid "super-sub" rule in ODI's which clearly favours the team winning the toss coupled with the new power play where virtually every captain has taken the 20 overs straight as one of the worst

Couldn't agree with you more.

For me it has made a joke of one day cricket.

super-sub........ powerplay..........next they just have to introduce the 'forcefield of death' or something where you're allowed an imaginary shield in front of your stumps for 5 overs so you can't get bowled.

Langeveldt

Soutie
Made it for me
Seeing the boys beat New Zealand at home
Justin Kemp going from Strength to strength
Allan Donald getting involved in the South African setup as a bowling coach in Cape Town
KP returning to SA, hating it and England getting trounced in the one day series

Ruined it
SA's vulgar skunk headed export to the UK who had the time of his life, all year
England winning the winter test series, they should have won by a bigger margin too
The ICC, every single pointless innovation which I still don't understand
The superfluous series

Autobahn

State 12th Man

454 runs at 151.33 in 7 matches plus the man of series in the ODI's?

I think he enjoyed every second mate.
