Andrew Symonds

Burpey

Cricketer Of The Year
I thought Symonds bowled rather well in Sydney, though not well enough to justify his spot in the team.

International 12th Man
Well he took it which was more than could be said for the other bowlers.

btw symonds is the greatest :)

Now Gilchrist is back in form, let's flag the experiment and play Bracken as the first change seamer with MacGill and Warne as the spinners.

I wouldn't say Gilchrist is back-in-form yet. A few more good knocks and he will be.

Symonds will go to South Africa and then the selectors will reassess his progress after that and possibly the following series in Bangladesh (I think that's where the Aussies go after South Africa). Mervyn Gregory Hughes said on the Cricket Show during the lunch break in the Boxing Day Test that Symonds would be judged on his batting - if so, he's still skating on thin ice. But in both Melbourne and Sydney, he was asked to play as a third seamer, and he performed handily.

In any event, in my opinion, Gilchrist is Australia's all-rounder - leave him at #6, and put a third seamer in, be it Bracken, Tait, whomever, if they want two spinners.

No way man. Batting was the thing that cost us the Ashes, and frankly our middle-order still looks brittle. There's no way they can afford to drop a specialist bat. In my view, Symonds should not tour South Africa. If Watson gets through two Pura Cup games and does reasonably well, I would re-instate him at six, and take Michael Clarke as the reserve batsman on the South African tour.

1 knock doesn't mean back in form though does it?

He had a good knock in the "Super" Test...

Watson never batted at 6

I don't care. Anything that means Symonds is out of the Test side.
I'd prefer him to be dropped this time next year after a series with 120 runs @ 12 (95 in one innings) and 2 wickets @ 200.
