I don't think it's as clear cut as you may point out. Both Pak and SAF are ever improving and have enjoyed long streaks of success. Australia are the favourites yes, but by no means certainties.

Just curious, why would you have Marcus Trescothick as the opener in ODIs? If its based on current form, he's had a poor year only averaging 29.11, and if its based on overall ability throughout their career he averages 36.66. Good but far from great. Granted he had a good 2004, averaging just over 40 but whilst he improves in the test arena I think he's suspect in the ODI form.

The only question about SA is which amusing way will they find to get knocked out this time!

Oops. I thought he had a good year. Shows what I know.

SOUTHERN XI:
  • Hayden
  • Smith
  • Ponting
  • Styris (RM)
  • Martyn
  • Astle
  • Gilchrist (WK)
  • Pollock (RMF)
  • Vettori (SLA)
  • Warne (LBG)/Langeveldt (RMF)
  • Lee (RF)
NORTHERN XI:
  • Sehwag
  • Gayle
  • Dravid
  • Tendulkar
  • Lara
  • Flintoff (RF)
  • Dhoni (WK)
  • Irfan (LMF)
  • Muralitharan (OB)
  • Kumble (LBG)/Naved-ul-Hasan (RFM)
  • Akhtar (RF)
Comments? Lee would be unlucky to miss out, but I've tried to extend the batting lineup of Southern XI, and added two bowling options. Both teams have alternate selections for Tests and ODI's. Akmal's batting form adds another option.
