Shahriar Nafees Makes Fifty But Bowlers Fight Back

NCL (FC) Scores, Round 3, Day 2 of 4

Dhaka trail Chittagong by 187 runs with 5 first innings wickets remaining
Chittagong 377 all out (105.4) Masumud Dowla 73, Gazi Salahuddin 47, Nazimuddin 86, Faisal Hossain 91; Mohammad Rafique 4 for 72
Dhaka 190 for 5 (72) Anwar Hossain Piju 31, Mohammad Ashraful 33, Mahmudallah 62*

After polishing off the Chittagong tail in the morning, the Dhaka batsman found the going tough against a fairly inexperienced Chittagong bowling attack, and owed a great deal to the spirited resistance of young all rounder Mahmudallah. Dhaka, incidentally, are missing both of the in-form openers, Javed Omar and Rashidul Haque.

Barisal trail Khulna by 212 runs with 5 first innings wickets remaining
Khulna 379 all out (107.2) Tushar Imran 34, Manjural Islam Rana 108, Saghir Hossain 56, Abdur Razzak 56; Sajid Islam 3 for 54, Marshall Ayub 3 for 58
Barisal 167 for 5 (70) Imran Ahmed 41, Shahriar Nafees 64; Jamaluddin Ahmed 4 for 40

Shahriar Nafees made a positive 81 ball 64 but Khulna remained in charge on day two, thanks to a wagging tail and a late Barisal collapse instigated by off-spinner Jamaluddin Ahmed.

Sylhet trail Rajshahi by 10 runs with 4 first innings wickets remaining
Rajshahi 242 all out (93.3) Farhad Hossain 48, Naeem Islam 58; Hasibul Hossain 4 for 40, Enamul Haque jnr 3 for 53, Nazmul Hossain 3 for 58
Sylhet 232 for 6 (84) Moniruzzaman 86, Golam Mawla 31, Alok Kapali 38

Sylhet moved into pole position in Bogra on day two, thanks to Moniruzzaman's 86, and useful scores from Kapali and Mawla. The Rajshahi tail captitulated early on as left armer Enamul Haque jnr finished with three wickets, as did seamer Nazmul, while Hasibul took four. The match itself though remains firmly in the balance.

NCL Continues as Chittagong Take Command in Dhaka

NCL (FC) Scores, Round 3, Day 3 of 4

Chittagong lead Dhaka by 303 runs with 5 second innings wickets remaining
Chittagong 377 all out
Dhaka 303 all out (96.5) Anwar Hossain Piju 31, Mohammad Ashraful 33, Mahmudallah 63, Khaled Mahmud 81; Yasin Arafat 5 for 97, Wascaroni Ahmed 3 for 69
Chittagong 235 for 5 (65) Ehsanul Haque 62, Faisal Hossain 61*, Dhiman Ghosh 72*; Mohammad Rafique 3 for 89

Chittagong virtually sealed off the possibility of losing as Faisal and Dhiman piled on an unbroken 126 for the sixth wicket, after an early wobble against Mohammad Rafique who curiously opened the bowling, perhaps showing the nature of the pitch. Khaled Mahmud had put up a spirited resistance, adding 85 with Anwar Hossain for the last wicket.

Khulna lead Barisal by 96 runs with 6 second innings wickets remaining
Khulna 379 all out
Barisal 274 all out (108.4) Imran Ahmed 41, Shahriar Nafees 64, Nadif Chowdhury 43; Jamaluddin Ahmed 8 for 67
Khulna 96 for 4 (49) Arafat Salahuddin 3 for 13

Khulna remain in control thanks to Jamaluddin Ahmed, despite a late stumble as struggled to 96 off 49 overs. Jamaluddin wrapped up the Barisal innings, ending with the outstanding figures of 36.4-10-67-8, and remained not out at the close along with Manjural Islam Rana.

Rajshahi lead Sylhet by 130 runs with 4 second innings wickets remaining
Rajshahi 242 all out
Sylhet 296 all out (103.5) Moniruzzaman 86, Golam Mawla 31, Alok Kapali 38, Hasibul Hossain 31*; Farhad Reza 3 for 71
Rajshahi 184 for 6 (68) Farhad Reza 35, Hasanuzzaman 34*, Mushfiqur Rahman 58

An intriguing last day is in prospect as Rajshahi enjoy a slender lead on a pitch becoming progressivly poor for batting. Hasibul Hossain added crucial runs for Sylhet, before they were reduced to 81 for 5 in reply.

Just two days before it is due to begin the BCB has announced that the DPL has got no sponsor (shows Bangladeshi organisation)

Maybe CW could stump up the cash!! I dunno how much it would cost, but probably not a lot.
The Cricket Web Dhaka Premier League - sounds a real high profile tournament!

DPL Scores, Round 1

Just as we were getting used to the divisions the various Islams, Mohammads and Ahmeds played for, they've gone and mixed themselves with a load of clubbies who I have no idea at all as to who they are. The sources are a little harder to get, because these games are not List A. Here we go though...

Abahani beat Indira Road KC by 7 runs
Abahani 207 for 8 (50) Faisal Hossain 48, Niamur Rashid 44, Ali Arman 30*
Indira Road KC 200 all out (49) Prosenjit Bose 40, Arif Reza 35; Anwar Hossain Monir 3 for 33

City Club beat Kalabagan KC by 6 wickets
Kalabagan KC 218 for 7 (50) Uttam Kumar 57, Arman Hossain 47, Mahbubul Karim 39
City Club 224 for 4 (43.2) Shahriar Nafees 82, Tushar Imran 50, Alok Kapali 32*

Tatenda Taibu made just 12 for City Club

Victoria SC beat Orient SC by 7 wickets
Orient SC 168 all out (49.5) Feroz Alam 57, Shahnewaz Kabir 3 for 30
Victoria 172 for 3 (47.5) Sazzadul Hasan 55, Nasiruddin Faruque 54

Old DOHS beat Sonorgoan by 57 runs
Old DOHS 225 all out (47.3) Steve Tikolo 74, Nasiruddin 32; Mohammad Rafique 5 for 19
Sonorgoan 168 all out (37.5) Farhad Reza 3 for 23

Mohammedans beat Agrani Bank by 66 runs
Mohammedans 230 for 9 (50) Habibul Bashar 80; Imtiaz Hossain 3 for 16
Agrani Bank 164 all out (44.3) Jamal Faisal 56; Shabbir Khan 4 for 32, Monirul Islam 3 for 18

Brothers Union beat Biman Bangladesh by 5 wickets
Biman Bangladesh 180 for 8 (50) Mushfiqur Rahman 67*, Hasanuzzaman 47; Nazmul Hossain 4 for 33
Brothers Union 181 for 5 (45.5) Ehsanul Haque 84*, Arafat Sunny 35

Cricketer Of The Year
Ehsanul Haque's in the runs again. Hopefully this doesn't mean a recall to the national team. We all remember what happened last time. I'd say Mohammedan are favourites again with City Club also right up there this year. Last year's premiers Victoria will be lucky to win another game IMO.

On another note the U19's final is today. It will be played between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

DOHS: Steve Tikolo (Kenya)
Abahani: Shadab Kabir (Pakistan)
Mohammedans: Sandeep Sharma (India)
Kalabagan: Mohammad Jajid (sp from source? possibly Mohammad Zahid?) and/or Tariq Mahmood (Pakistan, not sure whats going on here, teams can only have 1 os player)
Victoria: Zafar Qureshi (Pakistan, no cricinfo details)

It's a little unconvicing and muddled as you can see

Your comments...

(It's probably better to do this for the DPL games as I can't see as much interest as for the NCL games)

Tikolo the all-rounder. :D
He is probably the best player ever from a non-Test playing nation, I reckon he could maybe, given the practice and time, have played for any ODI or Test side at his peak. It also shows the quality of Bangladesh club cricket. Mohammad Rafique has got eight cheap wickets in two games now - IMO he could have played for a few other Test nations as well, certainly better than anything England, Windies or South Africa have produced.

We've got Kennedy Obuya playing in our league this year - he's been struggling a fair bit though.
