U19 12th Man
8th Round Preview

Jan 31
Old DOHS SC Vs Biman Bangladesh: Should be a close one. DOHS is seriously depleted as four of their key players (Tamim, Mehrab, Razzak, and Shahadat) got national team call ups.

Mohammedan SC Vs Brothers Union: Four Mohammedan players (Bashar, Sakib, Aftab, and Tapash) also got national team call ups, so Brothers may have a fair chance to stage an upset.

Victoria SC Vs City Club: Victoria only lost Mushfiqur Rahim, so their strength is pretty much intake. They should be the favourite to win the match.

Feb 1
Sonargaon Cricketers Vs Abahani Ltd. : It will be interesting to see how Abahani does without Mashrafe and Tushar, two players that made crucial contributions for the club with both bat and ball. Sonargaon lost three players (Ashraful, Rafique, and Sharif) but they have other more than capable players to make up their loss.

Kalabagan KC Vs Young Pegasus: It will be interesting to see whether Pegasus can continue beating up mediocre teams.

Indira Road Vs Partex Sporting Club: Both teams badly need to win this match to avoid playing in the relagation league.

Mirpur: Mohammedan (6-2) beat Brothers Union (0-8) by 36 runs
Mohammedan 203-8 (40)
Rashidul Haque 59, Junaid Siddique 52, Nadim Chowdhury 27; Syed Rasel 2-35, Tapash Ghosh 3-43
Brothers Union 167 (38.2)
Imran Ahmed 66 (94b); Manjural Islam 2-22, Ariful Islam 2-42, Arafat Sunny 3-26, Imtiaz Hossain 2-22

Even the arrival of some heavy fog in Dhaka could not improve Brothers' fortunes as they slumped to a comprehensive defeat to Mohammedan, depleted of their national team players. Junaid and Rashidul, playing his first match of the season, opened up with 112. In reply, only Imran Ahmed's fifty offered much resistance as the rest of the batting order crumbled.

Fatullah: Victoria (6-2) beat City Club (2-6) by 92 runs
Victoria 251-7 (50)
Imrul Kayes 74, Nasiruddin Faruque 43, Mahbubul Karim 39, Jaffar Qureshi 31; Kamrul Islam 3-47, Sajjadul Hasan 2-42
City Club 159 (35.3)
Anwar Hossain 53, Sirajullah Khadeem 25; Shahnewaz Kabir 2-37, Shabbir Khan 2-37, Nazmul Hossain 2-25, Jaffar Qureshi 3-17

Imran Kayes and Nasiruddin continued their fine recent form with a 99-run opening stand as Victoria came out comfortable winners against struggling City Club.

Old DOHS v Biman was postponed due to fog and will be played on Friday.

Fatullah: Abahani (8-0) beat Sonargaon (6-2) by 59 wickets
Sonargaon 59 (17.4)

Mohammad Shahzada 6-9, Suhrawadi Shuvo 2-6
Abahani 60-2 (16.4)

A cloudy day in the capital, yet another win for Abahani as their closest rivals were skittled by Mohammad Shahzada for just 59 in a match reduced to 42 overs-a-side. Ejaz Ahmed, Saman Jayantha, Elias Sunny, Alok Kapali and Marshall Ayub all made ducks as Sonargaon fell to the depths of 12-7 before a slight recovery through Dhiman Ghosh's 17. Shahzada reportedly swing the ball both ways on a true wicket.

Dhanmondi: Kalabagan (3-5) beat Young Pegasus (3-5) by 2 wickets
Young Pegasus 295-8 (45)

Rabiul Islam 55, Lal Mohon 85, Sharifullah 64; Arafat Salahuddin 3-47
Kalabagan 296-8 (44.5)
Uttam Sarkar 30, Shahbaz Butt 50, Mahbubul Karim 56, Nahidul Haque 82, Arafat Salahuddin 58; Sharifullah 4-51

After the loss of an hour's play curtailed the game to a 45-over affair, Lal Mohon and Sharifullah continued their fine recent form to post a challenging total, aided by young opener Rabiul Islam. However, the more experienced Kalabagan batting order sealed the game with a ball to spare, despite Sharifullah's four wicket haul.

BKSP: Partex (3-5) beat Indira Road (1-7) by 27 runs
Partex 176-9 (33)

Rajin Saleh 89, Mizanur Rahman 46; Tariqul Islam 5-36
Indira Road 139-8 (33)
Mahfuzur Rahman 5-16

Coming off the back of a hundred in the previous round, discarded national team batsman Rajin Saleh played another crucial innings as Partex ran up a hefty score that ultimately proved too much for lightweight Indira.

Abahani's progress in the premier league is quite amazing. They have lost key players like Nazmus Sadat, Khaled Mashud (IMO, blessings in disguise) but they always maintained the momentum. Now, even after losing Mashrafee, Shahzada stepped up. That's really impressive.

Now, old DOHS and Sonargaon are favorites for the second spot unless something extra-ordinary happens in the next rounds.

All three games were affected by fog. DOHS suffered yet another set back against Mohammedan, who were inspired by the arrival of Indian all-rounder Sandeep Sharma. Victoria made short work of Biman's strong total of 189 thanks to an unbroken fourth wicket partnership of 127 between Golam Mabud and Rashidul Haque. The shock of the day, however, came at the BKSP, where winless Brothers Union finally got points on the board with a 10-run Duckworth-Lewis victory over high-flyer Sonargaon Cricketers.

Fatullah: Mohammedan (7-2) beat Old DOHS (5-4)by 17 runs
Mohammedan 221-5 (26)

Rashidul Haque 89 (66b, 10x4, 4x6), S Sharma 86; Nabil Samad 3-50

Todays result round-up

The rejuvenated Abahani Limited maintained their unbeaten run in the KAI-Altech Premier Division cricket League with a four-wicket win over Partex SC at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium Sunday.

The Dhanmondi raced to 194 for six with seven balls to spare in reply to Partex modest 191 for seven in the stipulated 48 overs. Abahani consolidated their solo lead with nine straight wins in the 12-team point table.

Promotees Young Pegasus recorded their fourth victory in nine matches as an unbeaten century from opener Rabiul Karim powered Pegasus to a convincing seven-wicket win over City Club at Dhanmondi Cricket Stadium.

Kalabagan KC refused to play against Indira Road after the Kalabagan were 175 for nine in 44.2 overs in reply to Indira Road's 212 for nine in 50 overs at Narayanganj Osmani Stadium.

Abahani-Partex

After being invited to bat first, Partex, who tasted three triumphs, put on a moderate total riding on national discard Rajin Saleh's unbeaten 100.

Rajin played two noteworthy innings along with Pakistani Rashed Hanif (18) and Ahsanullah Hasan (18) for the fifth wicket and the unbroken eighth wicket. The opener added 41 runs with Hanif and 59 runs with Ahsanullah.

Rajin hit nine fours and one six in his 128-ball knock.

Paceman Talha Jubair grabbed three wickets for 43 while Suhrawardi Shuvo chipped in with two for 39.

In reply, Abahani fell into trouble to reduce to 47 for two, but Nazim and Naeem repaired the damage to put 108 before Naeem (57 off 75 balls) being caught off a Rashed delivery.

After the departure of Naeem, Ahabani lost another two wickets quickly to reduce to 168 for five, but Nazim took the side ashore remaining unbeaten for 84 off 123 balls featuring nine fours.

Pegasus-City Club

Despite a poor start, City Club posed a fighting total of 259 for all in 49.2 overs after being put in to bat first.

Mostafizur Rahman, Ishraq Sonnet and Martuza Hossain (32) helped the City Club put on a healthy total. Mostafizur and Ishraq took their side to 155 from 24 for three before Ishraq (63 off 94 balls) returned to the dressing room.

Mostafizur topscored with 94 off 92 balls hitting 11 fours and one six.

In reply, Pegasus lost their first wicket at 11, but Rabibul and Lal Mohan blunted the opponent bowlers to put on exact 100 runs for the second wicket stand before Lal Mohan was caught by Farid off Martuza.

Mohan played a cyclonic 33-ball 66 with the help of 11 fours and one six.

Then, Rabibul paired with Reza Sunny put the City bowers to submission to score 144 runs for the third wicket to take the side 255 before Sunny (59 off 93) was caught and bowled by Mazharul.

Rabibul who also hammered a century against Abahani remained unbeaten playing a run-a-ball 123 hitting 19 boundaries.

Cheers Miraz, I've got a fair bit of schoolwork/revision at the moment so doing the updates is a bit hard. Rashidul Haque has made a decent impression after a year or so out in the cold. Maybe he'll get a game for Dhaka in the next NCL round, especially with Uttam in such poor form.

Do you (or Efaz) know much about Nasiruddin and Nazimuddin? Both seem to be in the runs almost all of the time, but their names never crop up when it comes to talk about 'A' squads.

Cheers Mate!. Nazimuddin has already played for Bangladesh A and this young chap has future ahead. Nasiruddin Faruque should be considered unlucky. I believe his recent performances might earn him a Bangladesh A team call in coming series against Srilnka A or England. A

I can do the update when you are busy. :)

Abahani tasted the first defeat of DPL in the hand of Kalabagan KC by one wicket. This will make the league title competition a bit more interesting. In another matches Indira Road defeated City club by 11 runs.

Unfortunately the game between Brothers Union and Partex at the Dhanmondi Stadium, however, was unfinished as chaos took over following invasion of Brothers fans. Partex were declared winners later.

Haha, pitch invasion. How many fans actually watch these games.

Cheers, for covering this Miraz, as I said I'm inundated with work at the moment. Can't believe I said that Nazimuddin hadn't played for Bangladesh A before. He got another fifty, anyways.

Good going guys. About Nasiruddin Faruque- he is a left hand openning batsman. He was part of the Bangladesh U/17 team along with Nafees Iqbal and Mohammad Ashraful. He also represented Bangladesh A-team in a Pakistani domestic league (Patrons Trophy).

Interestingly, Faruque's openning partner Imrul Kayes is also a left hand batsman. Those two, so far, have proven themselves the most successful openning pair in the league.

I am keeping a spreadsheet on leading players in the league. As the first phase of the league is almost over, I thought it is a good time to take a look at the stats-

Code:
Batsman Match	Inn	N.O.	Runs	100	50	Avg
Rajin Saleh 10	10	2	446	2	2	55.8
Rabiul Karim	10	10	1	417	2	1	46.3
Tamim Iqbal 7	7	0	408	1	2	58.3
N Faruque 9	9	2	401 4	57.3
Imran Ahmed 10	10 394 3	39.4
Al Shahariar 10	10 388 5	38.8
Imrul Kayes 9	9 370 3	41.1
Nazimuddin 10	10	2	336 3	42
Jahur Elahi 10	9	1	327 2	40.9
Javed Omar	10	10 324	1	1	32.4
Shahbaz Butt 8	8	1	320	1	2	45.7
Rashid Hanif 10	10	1	317 1	35.2
Mahbubul Karim	9	9 304	1	2	33.8
Sharifullah 10	9 294 3	32.7
For the bowlers, stats are incomplete. So I am just giving the name of the bowlers and number of wickets they took-
Code:
Bowlers Wkts
Rezaul Haque 25
Jaffar Qureshi	22
Shahzada 21
Suhrawadi Shuvo	20
Sharifullah	18
It is refreshing to see that the dominance of foreign players has reduced a lot in Dhaka Premier League this year.

The fresh face of the league: Rabiul Karim. This is the first time the eleventh grade student playing in a Dhaka league. I hope to see him in Bangladesh U/19 team.

Thanks for the stats Efaz. I'm curious as to where you've got the information from though. The DPL section of Tiger Cricket isn't working at the moment for some reason. It's great to see so many young Bangladeshis in those batting averages - there should be some new faces in the divisional sides when the NCL gets going again (any news when that will be, BTW?).

I got the stats out of TigerCricket (before their domestic section went down) and CricBD combined (which is why bowlers' stats are incomplete as CricBD, most of the time, doesn't give bowling figure for a bowler if he did not get a wicket).

NCL FC version is supposed to resume from Feb 14, though dates are not confirmed yet.

So when are they going to play the DPL Super Six stage? May as well have a baboon organising it.
