Ten players select themselves (either side of Joginder).

A few months ago the 11th would have selected himself too and decided to bat first on winning the toss but thats not the case than God.

So coming to the 11th (or 6th in the order) spot, why isnt Yuvraj a contender. In matches against non-minnows he has
Matches 6
Runs 302
Batting average 43.1
Hundreds 1
Fifties 1
Bowling average 43

Ganguly in the same number of matches has...

Matches 6
Runs 154
Batting average 19.1
Hundreds 0
Fifties 1
Bowling average 43

His best in Tests was seen in Pakistan, but since, he's not done too well. He makes silly mistakes against spinners and is hopeless against pacers, so he too is often prone to a slump in form , so he's no great shakes in this batting lineup. Moreover, he's no out-and-out six-hitter (Gilchrist, Flintoff, Klusener), nor is he someone you would have as a stock bowler. He's a very talented batsman, but needs to prove imself as a big-innings player, and he's no all-rounder contender.

Arjun its Murali Kartik, not Karthik. Everytime you say 'Karthik" whilst referring to 'Kartik' I get extremely confused thinking you mean Dinish Karthik the keeper. ;)

Anyway I think the test squad is near perfect. Would have liked to see Zaheer there with his good FC form, but I'm not too fussed. I hope Dhoni does well behind the stumps along with the bat during the SL series.

I hate numerology. It's a glorified art of making excuses.

pathetic performance by the SL team. the bowling was ineffective and batting was awful.
Absolutely poor. Another thrashing in the Test series is on the Menu already ! :D

It seems Bandara though probably has a slight edge over Weerakoon in terms of the second spinner.

Anything less than a thrashing will be good for Sri Lanka on current form.

There are so many pluses for India as the series unfolds , where Sri Lanka have none.

India on a winning purple patch, all their batsman in fine form and at home. Ganguly if selected will also know this is do or die and will be eager to be in big runs from the outset.
Coach Chappell under pressure will want to stamp out his critics with an absolute white wash !! All in All India has too many things going for them here.

SL has to cling onto Murali for dear life (and hope like hell :D :D ) and there's nothing or no one else who can make any significant impact for SL in this series .

BTW Dinu - Kapugedera (the new comer)has already gone home before the series has even started, I bet Jayasuriya will be getting into a flight sooner or later , what do you think ? :D

they've sent Mubarak to replace him. don't u think kalavitigoda would have been a better option? I mean, we only have Marvan as a specialist opener(hopefully Avishka won't play), and with Sana gone, I think Shantha would have been a better option.

anyway I hope Mubarak is worth his airline ticket. :D

Whatever it takes!!!
The chennai pitch will help Murali, IF the rains don't come into the equation. The first day batting could be pretty tricky, as the pitch will be pretty hard. The pitch goes soft real soon at this time of the year, March/April would have been a different story, though.

Unlikely given the several thousand dollars that has been wasted on him with absolute Zilt result from him so far.

He has a "Gold Card entry" into SL cricket Teams :D :D the only reason for this being "his father worked in the UN and has done a lot of benevolence on behalf of his Golden child (directly to the selectors and perhaps others involved in SL cricket) :D "

If anything he is an even greater waste of money and resources than Avishka. :D :D

If this is the future of SL Cricket, May I never be born a Sri Lankan ever in my future lives !! :@ :@

It may also have a little political angle to it, do you think ? Given Mubarak is an Islamic guy and the current politics of SL.

Otherwise how do you explain a Dud like him still continuing to play for SL over and over again. (this is my opinion despite this guy having played for my old school)

I doubt if a person from a different background to him would have got the number of free rides into the SL Test Team like this Dud has had !! :@

Well, there is a cyclone stationed up at 400 Kms north of Chennai, which is expected to cross over any time now. It was supposed to have crossed on Wednesday night (Indian time) but it is still there, people are expecting it to cross on Friday or Saturday night. I am juz keeping my fingers crossed and praying the Lord.

I don't think we really have a better middle order batsmen outside the national team apart from Kapugedera. I would rather them give him a plane ticket then give Arnold another one.

Yep. The cyclone is stationary right now over Andhra and expected to cross shore in a couple of days. But whether it will pass over Tamil Nadu or not before crossing shore is not known. I've come here from Bangalore just for the match (Don't want to miss any Chennai match) with my end-semester exams a day after the match :D So hope the rain stays away.
