I agree with most of this. However I c'ant understand why you'd have Harvey above Steve Waugh!

Always up for a bit of this:

Batsmen:
1. Don Bradman
2. Greg Chappell
3. Victor Trumper
4. Ricky Ponting
5. Alan Border
6. Steve Waugh
7. Neil Harvey
8. Stan McCabe
9. Matthew Hayden
10. Arthur Morris

Hill, Macartney, Ponsford, Simpson, Walters, Gilchrist all pretty stiff to miss out.

Bowlers:
1. Shane Warne
2. Glenn McGrath
3. Dennis Lillee
4. Bill O’Reilly
5. Ray Lindwall
6. Fred Spofforth
7. Alan Davidson
8. Keith Miller
9. Charlie Turner
10. Clarrie Grimmett

As always, you could swap a lot of those around and it wouldn’t make much difference. Trumble, Johnston and Benaud probably the unluckiest to miss out.

Richie rated higher than I would have expected.

Still have Lillee, Warne, Bradman and Gilchrist to come, I guess.

Redbacks

International Captain
fair to assume that the older generation don't look too favourably on the recent players onfield behaviours.

Suppose no Grimmett the biggest omission. Dizzy slightly harshly done by given Garth McKenzie made it in too.

Monty Noble and The Big Ship, especially if leadership is highly prized by the electorate, probably has cases too.

Yeah Benaud is being over-rated IMO. He averaged above 30 against both England and the West Indies. I would imagine old-timers like Spofforth and Turner would rank above him.

Clem Hill is perhaps worth a place as well..

Hayden too.

Haha love this bit:

In between visits Keith would often ring. One time I answered the phone and heard: “I thought you told me, ahem, that Mark Taylor was a good bloke.”
“He is, Keith.”
“Then why,” laughed Keith, “didn't he, ahem, make one more bloody run before he declared?”
It was October 1998 and Taylor had just struck his mammoth 334 not out in Peshawar — the then Australian record, and equal to Bradman's top score.

The Sean

Cricketer Of The Year
McGrath, Chappell, Trumper and Tiger all a few notches lower than they should be IMO. Richie, much as I love him, too high.

Miller too low as well for mine - I have him top 3. But then, I guess I would wouldn't I?

The Age is runnning the 'Cricketer's top 25' at the moment (better named Bradman and the next 24).

The greatest of all time? Our cricketers decide - The Age - Melbourne

The Results so far:

The players value 'leadership', 'good bloke' etc more highly than outsiders in general.

Miller Comes in at 5:
In praise of the, ahem, all-rounder - Chapelli - The Age - Melbourne
With these 20 the five to come would have Bradman, Wane, Lillee and GrimmettI I guess and since Gilchrist is missing in the 6 to 25 list I guess he will fill the last spot although that is surprisingly high.

I realise that not many here think Grimmett is that high but then . . .

Of course I could be proved completely wrong for there are some surprise in the order, if not the contents of the 20 listed . . .
