Will Ponting get disciplined ?

It's all a bit ironic really when it was Dennis Lillee in England in 1981 who invented going off for a shower and change of clothes after a spell. That's when the rules were originally changed to prevent that happening, they've been modified over the years but as usual someone will always find a way to exploit all rules.

Wasn't it Australia in the Challenge who supersubbed Hayden(IIRC) and then brought him on as a sub fielder the same ball?

Yes it was, when Watson got injured. A case of pot-kettle here I think, which isn't surprising when Ponting's involved.

No he spoke to the umpire and shouted something at, for all we know, anyone. Maybe even the crowd..... He shouldnt get disiplined at all, and if he does there is something wrong with cricket
players have been disciplined, fined, suspended for less...

Yes, but that was for a legitimate reasons, Watson was actually injured and they hadn't been subbing people willy nilly. Well within the rules.

What Ponting was having an outburst about, and it wasn't right for this delivery because Jones was legitimately injured, was the use of fielders because of the regular resting of bowlers.

He wasn't in the right to have a sook, but he had a point about the regular changing of the English bowlers as said earlier, but probably should be fined. If he is banned, that is a joke.

Australia have been pushing the boundaries of excessive appealing, dissent, and mis-conduct (with Ponting holding up the game to question umpiring decisions) all series, and have been lucky to get through with a - physicall, if not reputation-wise - clean sheet thus far.

Cricket... Australian style.
What a stupid and racist thing to imply. The Australians in no way are any worse it just seems that when it happens people jump all over us. We play with passion... that's Cricket Australian style. And probably the reason why we're number 1 in the world.

How was it a case of pot-kettle? One was within the rules, and the other was not. I don't understand why everyone is so confused about this. Watson was injured, so it's okay to bring a sub on for him. Rotating your fielders to give them a rest and keep a specialist fielder on the field is against the rules. As Hayden had been subbed off and Australia needed a sub fielder, he was as good as anyone else to use and it's perfectly legitimate.

i never said that we were unbeatable. The number 1 team in the world can be beaten.
I was referring to the fact that England are playing with that same hard edge, and as you said "passion", that is usually associated with Australia.

And it's probably the reason why England are beating us

If Saurav Ganguly can be banned for five matches (albeit ODI's) for India bowling a bit slowly, Ponting should cop at least a one match ban...

Whingeing Aussies doesnt have quite the same ring as Whingeing Poms.. But its quite funny to watch at the moment.. After all, the series is still square..
Exactly... I can't believe certain people here are trying to defend Ponting's actions...it was disgraceful. What is particularly galling is that Ponting is still trying to defend his actions with his 'apology'. Ridiculous.

Umm, what would you suggest he do? Not apologise?

I did not watch the incident. An apology is the least Ponting could do if he behaved in a manner not suitable of an Austrailan captain. I refuse to call the incident childish as it is a way of justifying reckless behaviour.

Punishments for a captain is more severe than for a player and Ponting will be lucky to escape without any thing.

Will it save Ponting from the tag of the Captain who lost the Ashes? We will see!

Of course he wouldn't.

If it was an English player, everybody would be all over the Aussies for rotating bowlers.

Absolutely ridiculous to see how much some people want to jump all over Australia for absolutely everything.

No... a real apology rather than one where he still tries to blame (if you will) the opposition for his actions would suffice.

Y'know... there's a reason people "jump all over Australia" when it comes to their disciplinary infractions. There is, I believe, a sporting culture in Australia that is quite negative. Throughout all age levels, all abilities of cricket (or sport in general), there is an aura of sport being much more than just enjoyment - that, I believe, is not a good thing. To use myself as an example, in high school, I was a somewhat talented batsman (not that good, but enough to get more than a few games in the 2nd team or so) - however, playing cricket and sport in general for an organised team (in this case, a school team) was simply not enjoyable. It seems to me that many Australians take sport much too seriously - a simple misfield is met with abuse, a poor throw the same...even the whole culture of sledging, and how it is almost seen as a good thing! To me, it speaks of a nation that is searching for an identity, and is finding it only in sport - thus, you take it too seriously and become unlikeable as a result. People aren't finding fault with Australia for no reason, it's a result of a sporting culture that has sucked the fun out of the game. You may call it passion, but I think it is something far worse.

edit: I'm sure I'll have people jumping on me for this post, calling me racist and whatnot. That is not the case, whatever you may believe.

I think Langer summed it up nicely.

Ponting is always cut when he gets out and after reading his diaries what I can gather is that he always mouths off and yells after he's dismissed. It's his way of dealing with it and helps him learn from his mistakes. Being run out at such an important stage of the game by some guy who's only there because he can field and run people out. I'm not gonna comment on whether that's right or not but Ponting seemed to think that wasn't fair. He was disappointed and reacted likewise. As Langer said he was blasting himself as much as England.

I don't see what the problem with him having a go at someone in the pavilion is. People do it all the time and they don't get fined so why should he? Ponting apologised afterward. Water under the bridge IMO
