Gilchrist and Sangakkara aren't all rounders because they don't bowl (duh!)

Kallis for me, just beating Freddie..
ahhh thats the mistake people make all-rounders in cricket are not just blokes who bat & bowl, they are people who perform an all-round role for thier side, so Gilchrist & Sangakkara should be considered all-rounders.....

Taking a career as a whole, I'd rate Kallis very highly too. Not on current form, though - not by a mile.

Allrounders meaning that they do two ''specialist'' roles in the team.

How can Kallis be considered a better allrounder than Flintoff? He's not at all a potent bowler anymore, whereas Flintoff is currently extremely potent with both ball and bat.
For this one match yeah.

Normally any difference there might be between the two in bowling thesedays, is no more dramatic than the gulf between them in batting.

but does 17wickets @64.52 in the last year and a half imply a bowler?

Flintoff can turn games and win games with the bat,as can Kallis

Flintoff is one of the best fast bowlers in the world at the moment..Kallis is nowhere near.

Flintoff would get into most (if not all ) teams with his bowling alone..kallis wouldnt

Flintoff would get into most teams with his batting alone..as would Kallis

Flintoff > Kallis

That's a nice way to put your own spin on things by picking and chosing a few meaningless phrases, however I'll think I'll go with.

56.87 batting average and 31.60 bowling average over 31.57 & 33.65

I'll go with 40.20 and 14.00 over both of those.

I think I must be missing something regarding Kallis...I always thought you had to be a world class bowler to be considered a world class allrounder.

Is Kallis a world class bowler?

He was - but if he can still be considered to be one, then my vote in this thread goes to Sobers.

Flintoff vs. Kallis since 1/1/2003
Flintoff 42.07 batting and 90 @ 28.70 bowling
Kallis 70.29 batting and 47 @ 41.12 bowling

Bowling wise, they are obviously heading in completely different directions, and Flintoff's stock is still rising
