Zimbabwe "Players" of the Year

Chubb

International Regular
This ceremony gives an insight into how ZC are currently operating;

Player of the Year- Tatenda Taibu- can't really fault that, he deserves it.

Developing players of the year- Chris Mpofu and Graeme Cremer- nice racial balance, both deserve it because they've shown some talent.

Cricket Writer of the Year- Lawrence Moyo of The Herald

Moyo wins that for the third time in a row, given the award because he supports the ZC just as his newspaper backs Zanu PF. According to Cricinfo the ZC regularly send him additional info, warning him not to tell anyone because "the others will wonder where you got it"

In addition to that, and more troublingly, seven pro-board cricket writers were each given 4 million Zimbucks in recognition of "good reporting"- in other words they supported ZC. According to Cricinfo's Stephen Price, an insider told him these seven know next to nothing about cricket. It's typical of the supposedly non-political, non-racist ZC to do this, and just goes to show the level of corruption and politicisation of Zimbabwe Cricket.

in my opinion there is only one cricket writer worth the name in Zimbabwe, John Ward, who ran the excellent Zimbabwe Cricket Online from 2000-03, and authored almost all of the biographies and match reports to do with Zimbabwe . I don't know whether he still writes for cricinfo or TWC, but he deserves that award far more than Moyo.
