Whats with pak cricket ?

This is nothing surprising for Pak cricket as Scorpio said it was about time. Wasim when he was captain, I think did an admirable job but then whenever u lose dissension creeps in. I personally think that captains in general and pakistan captains in particular need to have the knack for PR, with players, make sure they do not alienate any player, and if some player is just not a team player, wants to make groups within the team, then no matter how good he is, he should be removed from the team, ala Qasim Omar.

One of the biggest reasons why Imran succeeded was that in his very long captaincy stint, the Pak team never really had any humiliating defeats, WC87 SF was close but still Pak reached the SF which is a big thing. And also that team just didnt have the talent as the Pak team has now and at that point the bar had not been raised very high by the preceeding Pak teams, hence the expectations werent that high. But now Pak has done significant things in its history and at the moment has excellent talent at their disposal, with good strong leadership and sound management this team could be something like the WI of old, but its not gonna happen.

Pak Cricket is not good Enough Domesticly
Might be a valid point for most teams, but Pak cricket has somehow consistently produced good to great players and teams even with a poorly organised domestic structure.

From what i have read, it appears that senior players are not happy with the team management, in particular with Yawar Saeed, the manager.Take the example of Youhanna ,he had an Injury as detected by MRI.It was the responsibility of the Doc to explain all this to the Manager and the Captain.Yawar Saeed, the manager, played a major role in the expulsion of Youhanna. He didn't evan take into account that Youhanna had no record of misconduct and such an action was an extreme one.

If Waqar is sacked as captain then it would be a disaster for Pak cricket.I don't think Pak have an alternative, Akram can't lead the team, Saeed,Moeen and Lateef have been failures as skippers. Can Inzi do the job? well he has been facing fitness problem since some time, besides i don't think he can motivate the players like Waqar does!

As for Misbah, well i haven't seen him so i can't say as to whether he's good or not, but what puzzles me is that when Pak had only 4 fit specialists batters in their squad, they still went into the match with just three of them leaving out Misbah! This shows that Waqar have no confidence in the guy, the humiliating defeat and the criticism led Waqar to pick the guy in the remaining matches.Saqlain is another example of injustice, Malik is often prefered over Saqlain, even though Malik is not even required to bowl more than 3-4 overs!

Bringing back Moeen as skipper would be a disaster, better stick with Waqar. However, should Moeen replace Rashid as WK batsman in onedayers???? am not sure about that!

What has it to do with Pak team recent poor performance??? The same team defeated Aus/NZ/SL a couple of month back, yet are facing difficulty in beating Kenya.

There is n way Moin should replace Rashid in any form of cricket, someone might wanna look up Moin's performance as a bat (no good stats are available for keepers) in the last few years, I think he must have averaged below 20 in ODI, and something similar in tests.

And I dont think anyone can doubt that Rashid is a much better keeper compared with Moin.

Keeping is definetely not the reason why Pak is losing right now. Bringing in moin back would mean an average of 1-2 more catches dropped in every match.

With the ICC trophy and the WC round the corner, this is the worst time for this kind of unrest in Pakistani cricket. Let's hope it blows over soon and sanity is restored so that the players can concentrate on their cricket.

Well Moin was averaging 20 with the bat(last ten onedayers) as compared to 22, his overall ave.I think Moin has an edge over Rashid as far as batting is concerned in onedayers, as he was an improviser and a fighter. However as far as keeping is concerned, Rashid is way ahead.
I think Pak should just stick with Rashid, Moin can be a handy batter but he make a mess of things behind the stumps.

Weren't the majority of those ODI victories inspired by Shoaib Ahktar..I recall when NZ toured Pakistan they were doing well against the likes of Waqar & Wasim and it was Shoaib who destroyed them.

I think theres more of a problem than you realise.

Tim..if u only know what you are talkin abt...

PAk never had any domestic structure. Just a bunch of clubs and banks...all the players come up inspite of the system. Yeah it is amazing how it acutaly works.
I guess no one has actually figured that out

I just checked the scores of the final between pak and oz....this sucks..malik eats up 94 balls to make 37 and bats above inzamam, younis and a inform misbah. Just what is goin on?

SOme baffling decisions....i am sleepy so a detailed post in the morning..

I will help out here-
Pakistan ended up with 227, Misbah-ul-Haq got 50, and Razzaq got 59 from 43 balls. Those innings really got Pakistan out of quite a bad situation, at one stage they were fifty-odd for 3 after twenty-odd overs (to be specific about it).
The last over really was a disappointment though, after massive 48th and 49th overs pakistan only managed 2 off the last one as Gillespie finished off the tail, to get a five-wicket haul... however an expensive one, he conceded 70 runs and bowled inconsistently conceding 4 wides and 4 no balls.
Shane Watson bowled a tidy ten overs conceding just 26 runs, and Brett Lee got 2-38 off his ten overs.
Shoaib Akhtar is missing from the Pakistan bowling line-up, replaced by the up and coming Mohammad Sami.
Theres a thorough report...

Woah this thread is alive !!

Well to tell you the truth i am really disgusted abt the recent performances. All the hard work of the past as been ditched down the drain...its uphill from now on in again,:(! we have to win to get any sort of confidence going again:(! we have to introduce coherence into the team
again :(!.

When Pakistan needed to cruise along, just then they are struggling. Down to their knees now and it will be very difficult to get back to their feet.

Its not easy to imagine how much these breakdowns of all the faculties in Pakistan cricket frustrate fans. This very moment (atleast IMO) Pakistan can be world beaters. Because of immense talent in the country, we have been able to produce world class athletes despite the extinction of any sort of infrastructure whatsoever.....but alas only for these inexplicable disruptions we have always managed to achieve far less than what we could have :(

In all sincerity though,on the other hand, i cannot blame the people concerned in totality. While so many institutions have been breaking down in Pakistan, cricket has thrived beyond expectations.

Cheeeers !! We get to play cave man again :D

So.....nothing logical abt this hypothesis yet ? ;)

The first thing, i now expect is a runaway act :D (no offence please)

Shoaib with the bat would hardly inspire me to ever touch a bat again. So how would you explain the batting failures ?.........i guess you wont :)

Yet the rain saves them in the final, and they somehow share the trophy with the Aussies ...

hehehe what would you want ?

Oh that makes me happy :D

Pakistan dont deserve do share the trophy, even if they had managed to win the final (although it would have been some come back) you would still find me saying it was an unworthy win.......Let see what boils up now that the players are going to be free and perhaps will have a rethink....i hope

LOL, this guy is obsessed with Shoaib.NZ were doing well against w's, okay but what about their bowlers?? they went for tons and Shoaib didn't contribute anything. If u think that Pak would have lost had Shoaib not played against NZ then u gotta be nuts. Also, NZ played three onedayers in Pak, Akhter got 6 wkts in Karachi BUT NONE in the other two matches!

Malik seems to be the blue eyed boy of Waqar, he's talented but not good enough to be selected ahead of Saqi.

Good news for Pak is that they seems to have found a good batsman in Misbah.Pak should now go matches with 4 mid-order batter in Younus, youhanna,Inzi and Misbah

Gotchya

Yeah Misbah may be the find..the middle order will look very potent. But the problem of a good opening pair is still there. Saeed has been hopeless to say the least, although he may not get the sack yet but he's not anywhere near what he used to be, just a shadow of his former past.

Leaving today's match situation aside, i cannot think of any situation on top of my head where i would send malik above so many specialist (yeah right !) batsmen. He may be good blocker but the lad lacks tecnique to score runs efficiently against good bowling.

Actually I have hated shoaib for a long time, but I think its true that Pak can beat good teams like Aus or SA (strong batting lineups), with Shoaib playing a major role.

Hey Yorker, u have any idea where is the rest of the sports.com gang, youhanna, wrecker etc?

yorker

Actually thats true, i'm myself not a big fan of Akhter, but in order to beat strong team like Aus/SA, Pak do need him.

An interesting news, Anwar is likely to be dropped for the ICC trophy, he will be replaced by Imran Farhat! I wonder if its a wise move.

Wrecker is in this same forum as WIC_rules.
