    Farewell Mr. Jacobs

Well, he's made it clear he does not want to play for the West Indies team as it currently is, and the selectors didn't do him the honour of picking him anyway. Ridley Jacobs has very likely played his last First Class match.

His final First Class innings goes down as one of his best. 140 against the Jamaican bowling attack, to lead his team to a lead of 250 after facing a 192-run first innings deficit. The knock was authoritative and oozing the clutch class that Jacobs has shown over the years. Was there ever going to be any other way for him to go? I think not.

His final season featured him at the top of his game, scoring 4 centuries and a total of 816 runs at 62.76 per innings. That goes with 3 half-centuries and 25 dismissals, all whilst batting at number 7.

Good show Mr. Jacobs and top career. You shall be missed.

I should have kept my mouth shut for the next ball - mind you, it was a length ball - Lara just pulled it over the church beyond the boundary! He is a true legend."

fair play ridley, a great lad indeed, although it seemed like he was no longer up to the standard required, the boxer keeper will indeed be missed.

the search for his replacement will indeed by hard as neither courtney brown or carlton baugh are up to the standard of jacobs at his peak, as batsman or keeper.

It's a great way for him to go out, he's had a top career and for some reason I always liked him.

A shame he's retiring - made his debut late, but was a good servant for the side IMO.

I have been a fan of Ridley for a long time- he is humble, low profile and a solid performer...
In my opinion, Ridley was vastly underappreciated......he was an excellent keeper......his keeping skills were a whole league and half ahead of the likes of Junior Murray and Dropney browne... and as a specialist keeper-batsman i cannot think of anyone better from the WI through the years apart from Dujon and Dereyck Murray....

He was one of the most important and valuable member of the WI squad.....the only player with balls enough to stand up to Allan Donald and Pollock in RSA... and for the last 4-5 years, i think he is the most crucial test player for the WI after Lara and perhaps Chanderpaul.

    A shame, indeed.
An exceptionally competant wicketkeeper and a pretty darn decent batsman. Carlton Baugh can undoubtedly play but, well, he's a right-hander.
Any more left-handed batsmen who can keep wicket to a decent standard knocking around, Liam?

Absolutely, great player for the West Indian side who always did his country proud. It's just a shame he often wasn't given enough credit for his commitment to West Indian cricket. He deserves to finish on a high and if he does decide to hang up his boots, it'll be a career remember for mostly the right reasons.

He wasn't flashy, but did he have substance. A really hard working cricketer he was who gave everything for his side. Really will be sad to see him retire, but that's the life of a professional sportsman.

A great servant to cricket in general and one of the few who were technically sound as wicket keeper and technically sound as a batsman too.
