Who is the best upcomming WKBatter in Subcontinent?

masterblaster

International Captain
Kumar Sangakkara,

Daylight

then Kamran Akmal.

Dhoni's got good potential to be up there one day, if the selectors have faith in him.

Sangakkara, then daylight.

Sangy is definately the best batsman by a light year and Akmal is the best glovesman by quiete some distance.

If you are talking about upcomming then i would say watch out for Dhoni, but we can't say he's the best as he is yet to ply at int level and prove himself.

Right now i would say its gonna be Karthik.

You make yourself look foolish out there by intentionally supporting the wrong guys. It may be anger that you're externalizing, but I don't see Karthik being any better than Akmal.

Eh? Sangakkara is a very, very good glovesman, Akmal is poor. He handles Murali and company with near perfection on difficult pitches. He's up there among the best straight keepers in the world even ignoring his batting, he simply is preferred as a batsman a lot of the time. And if it wasn't for Gilchrist he would be the best keeper-batsman too.

No he doesnt...Akmal is clearly a better glovesman than Sangy.....Sangy is erratic and he had a decent series or two keeping to Murali but mostly he has been average...he punches at the ball like Patel....
His keeping isnt very great shakes and that is one of the big reason why he hasnt really cemented the keeper's spot but Kalu keeps getting chances( he is better at keeping than Sangy but still not very good)

Well I won't say with any certainty that I have seen him as much as you, but the last time I saw him in the Tsunami charity match he was simply awesome, and put in one of the best keeping performances I have seen in years, and he was very good in the series in Sri Lanka against Australia as well.

And what I saw from Akmal didn't impress me at all either. He seemed more of a part-timer than a true keeper, just like Patel does. Far too many errors.

That is true...Sangy has improved his keeping considerably from what it was just a year ago....lets hope he keeps it that way....but i still think that Akmal is the best glovesman outta Akmal/Sangy/Moin/Karthik/Patel/Dhoni/Kalu....
If Latif was still playing, he would easily be the best glovesman of the lot though.

None of the contenders who play for subcontinental sides are good enough to be considered as genuine wicketkeeper-batsmen. Sangakkara's far from stable behind the stumps, Prasanna and Ratra struggle to score even two runs, Parthiv is just dry weight, Rahul Dravid is a specialist batsman (note the word- specialist) while Karthik is inconsistent with the gloves and struggling with the bat. Not much can be said of Akmal, who's relatively new, but he's quite good with the gloves. But there is a big gap in quality between Gilchrist and not just the subcontinental wicketkeeper-batsmen, but also those of other teams, since none of them have the balance and quality that he has.

Well in the Tsunami match he kept as well as he has ever kept to Murali but that has allot to do with the fact Murali wasn't bowling as well as usually does. But in saying that he has improved his keeping. from what i've seen of Ratra, Kamran and Prasanna their all better keepers then him, but he is allot better batter by far. I haven't seen enough of Karthik or Dhoni to comment, but from what i've heard their proabably as good with the gloves as Sangakkara. Well Patel, hmm i don't think i need to say too much, but he is only 19 (maybe 20 now) so he has plenty of time to improve.

On up an coming keeper/batsmen it would have to be Kamran ATM.

i reckon faaip is being far too harsh on akmal. he was really consistent throughout the summer, and didn't really do much wrong at all.

yeh probably just the langer drop in the first test that proved very costly other than that he has been really good and iv heard alotof pro's praising him

the langer drop - that was the one down leg side, right? if it was that one - its not as though that was an easy catch.

Gilchrist is better than Sangakkara?
Err - how, sorry?
Sangakkara bats three with two exceptionally inconsistent openers, who rarely do well together; Gilchrist bats seven behind 6 other batsmen with high averages and pretty darn good consistency.
And before you go on about Gilchrist's rescue-acts - be assured that Sangakkara has performed similar one-man acts.

In ODIs? Dhoni.
In Tests? Karthik.
Shame both of them ****ed-up against Bangladesh.

Kamran Akmal - I'll be amazed if he does well in either. It's extraordinary enough that he's even scored a century in each form.
Patel - he's darn lucky if he plays another Test (and even luckier if he plays another ODI)
