With Gaffers, There was an article in the ODT saying that this might be his last season as he will join the police. Although he could come back after that, but there would be no guarantees with that.
that shouldn't pose a long term problem - depending on when he goes in regarding the potential impact on the following season....

unless times have changed dramatically from my time the Police are / were dead keen on having high profile sportsmen & women in their ranks as it improves their profile - they will usually make some attempt at giving them the best opportunity to persue their sport to the fullest, even to the extent of having them posted to a major centre to allow them to work in other areas such as liason etc as opposed to 'normal' policing.............

John Gallagher held such a position when he was persuing his rugby career b4 turning pro with League.............

so long as he stays in a major centre where they can provide such options the ball should be in his court...........

Im also pretty sure he only wants to play for Otago.

Looking at the spinners,Neither McCullum or Patel have a great armory. They are both quite flat spinners. Why wasn't Wiseman selected? He was bought into the squad when Vettori was injured.
