Thread: Vaughan to score an ODI ton before his 100th ODI?

Vaughan to score an ODI ton before his 100th ODI?

Michael Vaughan has now played in 63 ODIs and is yet to make a century, his top score is 90 not out. Which (if any) century do you think Vaughan will bring up first, 100 caps or 100 runs in an ODI innings?

    100 runs..

Must be a big chance if he opens against Bangladesh or Zimbabwe

    It's a 50-50 call.

I'm inclined to lean towards him getting 100 caps first, but that's probably because I've seen him play a rather ar$e innings today. He'll keep getting picked 'cos his test record as skipper is first rate.

He should open, as I think should Bell. They're probably the most orthodox players in our ODI side so most in need of the extra time to play their natural games. Of course, with the fielding restrictions in the first 15 the temptation is to put in stroke players first up, but I think SA today showed the virtue of having wickets in hand come the last 10 overs. Kemp played a great little knock, but rather more steadfast innings from Gibbs & Kallis had laid the foundations.

Erm, I've wandered from the point a bit, but I'll go 100 caps first.

Vaughan / Tresco to open, Strauss 3 and Pietersen 4 with Flintoff(Bell for now) 5 and Collingwood 6, Jones 7, Giles 8 + 3 Fast Bowlers

I can't see Vaughan opening, that's not to say it won't happen. For me Strauss and Tresco should be opening and Vaughan to stay where he is. I still feel he's a bit of a passenger in the ODI team, it's only because Tresco is a not very good formulaic captain that keeps Vaughan playing really. He has as good a chance as ever of getting an ODI ton in the triangular against Bangladesh & Australia, but I don't think he'll get one.

Now this is coming from the biggest Vaughan fan.
To be fair its no secret that Vaughan will ever be a great OD player becuase of his shot limitations. But to say he is not a good player or even a passenger is not right. Thorpe has never made an ODI ton and butch didnt even make the cut, thats not to say their bad players. In an ODI a contribution of 80 or 90, like his has done, is arguably as good as a hundred. Just too many poeple like to jump on the Vaughan is usless in ODI's bandwagon when england are losing.

Should Vaughan be in the England ODI side full stop?? he's never seemed bring his test form to the oneday team. Do others think he would be in the ODI squad if he wasn't captain??

Is his domestic oneday record good??

    ahhh, read my last post.

Domestic record: na, no good. he has however scored two domestic centuries, and the one last year i think it was 116* was amazing, it was against Lancashire in a cup match that helped win the game.

I think he'll get a century at some point when nobody expects it, like for example against Australia in the NWS this year, and it will come just in time to save himself from being axed, and then he'll drop into shocking form again for a while.

Why should he explain it, when its obvious to everyone?

The term used was 'not very good'.

It's a great shame that a player who looks so much at ease at times in test matches, looks almost out of his depth at times in ODI cricket.

Im going to say he will get a century before he reaches 100 ODI's.
