    Icon5 where is vikram

im stil riding high on englands superb victories in SA but i cannot understand how you can not pick a batsman whos last two scores have been a ton and 66. Surely Bell should have been dropped to fit him in, you can't pick players just for the sake of picking them.

If you look at the broader picture, you will realize that Solanki packs sod all in the way of punch.. Okay he has played a couple of good innings, but his career returns have been more Bacheresque than anything else..
England cannot afford to pick such big non entities..

The point is that he's been in great form recently. It's form that counts, especially in ODI cricket and especially when it's not a guy with a great track record who's the other guy in the equation. What has Ian Bell done to merit being included over a guy in great form? It's not like Bell bowls or offers great fielding or anything else. Solanki should be playing, no question.

I think that Bells has been extremely unlucky so far on this tour. He needs time at the crease, and he hasn't been able to show his talent when coming in at no.7 with 5 overs to go and reqauired to slog.

He's missed out due to the fact that he has an incredible skill in getting himself out, that surpasses nearly anyone else in the current International arena.

Still, I expect him to start in East London.

    You what?

For a start Solanki doesn't bowl, Bell does, and second Bell's fielding is far from useless.
marc71178 - President and founding member of AAAS - we don't only appreciate when he does well, but also when he's not quite so good!

Bell's not a superior fielder. Solanki is second only to Collingwood in the England setup in terms of athleticism in the covers/point region.

hmmm that is debatable but surely solanki in the current state of affairs warrants a place in the side more than bell does.
