And finally, Shane Warne to announce his return to one day international cricket some time before the 2006 VB series, opening the door for a World Cup career finale.
Paving the way for Brad Hogg to be dropped for good, where he will go back to WA and will struggle like he did last time, finally giving Beau Casson free reign to become Western Australia and Australian domestic Cricket's premier wrist-spinner.

Graham Thorpe announces that the 5th Test at The Oval against Australia will be his last ever for England to take up a coaching/media role (could see him as a journalist or commentator).

When you were stated that because Steve Waugh couldn't play the short pull he never played the shot in the last x years of his career, yet top_cat said he played the shot on a number of occasions. Don't know which thread it was on.

1. Waugh rarely plays the "hook shot" and is therefore regarded as vulnerable to short-pitched bowling, a theory that has been widely tested by his opponents. Despite looking ungainly when facing it, he is rarely dismissed through it.

2. An interesting note in the Cricinfo report was the reference to Steve Waugh playing a hook shot, apparently his first since 1998!

3. A fiercely competitive player, Waugh played 325 limited-overs internationals for Australia but lost his place in the team in February 2002.

He was dropped from the Australian Test team in 1990-91 to allow his brother Mark to make his Test debut, but remodelled his game, putting the hook shot away and adopting a more controlled approach, to become one of the prized wickets of world cricket.

4. At Trent Bridge in England in 2001, Waugh was asked about his refusal to play the hook shot, one of the tactical adjustments he made mid-career when he abandoned flashiness and began protecting his wicket as though his life depended on it.

"I play about one every year," he said. "I'm going to play an innings before I retire when I'm going to hook - I guarantee that in a Test match.

"You'll know when I'm about to retire by that."

5. The tempation is there to make this the "Steve Waugh Memorial Series", and the nation waits with baited breath to see if the famous Steve Waugh Hook Shot will make an appearance.
A sarcastic reference to the long vanished Waugh shot on the eve of his retirement,

6. Steve Waugh feeling that he has something to prove is a dangerous thing if you are on the opposing side, and NSW went for the runs, and got them. Waugh himself scored 117 not out, ........ Steve Waugh even played his first hook shot since 1998.

7. Waugh was dropped from the Australian Test team in 1990-91 to allow his twin brother Mark to make his debut, but remodelled his game, putting the hook shot away and adopting a more controlled approach,

8. Plan of Attack Against Him: Steve Waugh eradicated his horizontal leg-side shots many moons ago but can be unsettled by the short balls still. Bowlers have had success bowling a few bouncers and then a full delivery from wide on the crease moving away. Tends to get out that way more than others.

9. Waugh does not play the "hook shot" and is regarded as vulnerable to short-pitched bowling, a theory that has been widely tested by his opponents. Despite looking ungainly when facing it, he is rarely dismissed through it.

10. Lara does not hook except in exasperation. Steve Waugh practises ducking

11. He remodelled his game, learning to cope with express pace, rejecting the hook shot and adopting a more controlled approach to become one of the more prized wickets of world cricket.

I didnt need any of these to prove a well known fact but considering how much weightage people give to the printed/published word, I just put hook and Steve Waugh on Google and look what came up :p
