I was staggered by Marshall's innings last night. When he walked out I said to a mate "nah, Marshall's sh** on slow pitches like this." Then he started off with two 4's down the ground, and basically rammed it home to me that he's more than just dinky deflections. I guess in my defence his record against domestic spinners is still poor, and there was no Warne or Murali last night.

If Oram feels no discomfort while batting and gets in some hours at the crease for CD, his ton at the Gabba and test ave of 44 should make him automatic IMO. Regardless of whether it suits the order, it would still seem like a nonsense to me if Oram missed out and either Sinclair or Styris (guys who look uncomfortable against AUS 9 times out of 10) made it.

Just thinking about it, I wonder if the selectors will raise Marshall's name when they talk about Rigor's replacement. The potential middle-order is so congested that he may be told exactly what Sinclair and Vincent were - that the only vancancy is as a makeshift opener.
Not a bad option to open really on current form and with no one else putting their hand up

I dont think you can afford to have makeshift openers in tests. In ODIs you can get away with it, since the role of one day opener is completely different to test opener.

If we have to use a non-specialist opener use Fleming (along with Papps I think)

Well surely Marshall will be given an opportunity in the test matches, whether he'll open or not is another question. Personally, I don't think he should open the batting - Fleming, who I think is more suited to number three anyway, should be promoted just because of his experience and either Sinclair or Michael Papps should walk out with him.

McGrath and Lee demonstrated beautifully what bowling at the death is all about in snatching close games. NZ was going along beautifully until, first McMillan , then Astle (what a stupid run out, running out the Teams main strike weapon :) ), and later Vettori and Marshall lost their heads doing silly things, when all that was needed was 2 of them just staying put till the end.

NZ lost this game, rather than Australia winning this one, and those guys who threw things into the ropes (thus making McGrath to field further inside than nearer the ropes)contributed too to NZ's loss.

But McGrath and Ponting used it very smartly in converting it to full use and to their advantage. :) :D

The crowd situation has been blown out of proportion .

Few, if any, PLASTIC bottles were thrown at players.

I take it Ponting never visited Bay 13 when it was still there?

nah there was a fair bit of stuff thrown, reminded me of melbourne a few years ago, but melbourne has cleaned its self up.

what has been blown out of proportion is umpiring decisions, nothing unusual about that though :|

What about the decisions that were given not out, or no balls that weren't no balls that a bowler took a wicket. Their are allot more decsions that effect wickets (the accuracy of umpires) then just the 40 that were given out.
And what about all the appeals for wickets that are turned down because they are not out.
Many LBW appeals are not given out because they are not out. How many times have you watched an appeal for caught behind and the umpire has turned it down and the replay shows he made the right decision.

You have no idea what you are talking about and have no idea what % of decisions are correct but you have made up a figure so you can justify you whinging about the umpiring.

Put up factual proof of you claims or shut up.

50 for Hayden, that decision from Bowden costing New Zealand.

Posts: 458 I don't blame him for not walking as I wouldn't if I was playing for my country. Bowden talks himself up as being a great umpire and could have used the 3rd umpire and didn't. A shocking decision that could be the difference. Thanks Billy, ya queer ****!

listening to radio they said the ball was pitched outside the line and hit the pads outside the line.

But of course there are people who think everything the TV commentators say is gospel.
Like Tony Greig is right all the time :D

So I guess the idiots in the NZ crowd that get off throwing things at the Australian fielders are not much different to the NZ posters that post on cricket Web.

Scallywag: ENOUGH. You've made your point.

As for people throwing stuff at the players, this is no different to most Aussie crowds (a point made by Glenn McGrath himself in the morning papers, I see)

When did i ever whing about the umpiring in this game all i said was that it could be improved overall. I couldn't really care what % their accuracy is as i never said 70% was the accurate figure all i said was it could be improved to whatever figure it is now and to a higher figure.

Generally they do get these rights, i never siad they didn't, it is just that they could get it more correct more often, with greater help.

Again why do i have to put up factual proof if i never said it was the exact figure. Get your head out of the sand and consider the fact that umpires aren't prefect, just like players aren't perfect. But like players they should be looking at more ways to improve their profession, for the improvement of the game.

Because I have put up factual proof that the umpires are over 90% correct and you have made claims that they are not. So what proof have you got to say my factual evidence is wrong.

Cus the ICC did that report and i'm sure their not going to say that umpires make regular mistakes. if they did this then people will call for technology being used for everything and also people will not want to become umpires if the even the ICC are putting them down. People who want to be umpires need someone to look up as budding cricketer need cricket players to look up to.

First of all I'm the first to say umpires are not perfect and if you read my posts you will see I've said that many times. What I allways say is you must understand that the umpires cant be perfect and people must understand that and must accept that.

Umpires can only work within the guidelines of the laws and its not their responsibility to change the laws. Posters that go on about using technology have no idea how the process works and what is involved in moving the umpiring decisions over to machines. You have to prove it is a reliable method that can be used on every test ground in every test match not just games they watch. It has to be able to withstand all the probables that could come up in a test match and has to be fool proof. There must be trained personel at every test match played who can make sure it all works on time every time.

Taking digs at the umpires every time they make a decision that tony Greig thinks channel nine could do better in no way goes anywhere to improving umpiring.

They are saying that the umpires make mistakes, and they are taking steps to improve it by reviewing all the decisions and going through them with the umpires.

I know that people have stated before that we should use HawkEye and Snicko (the machines ur refering to) but i personally don't think it needs to be used to make official decisions, it is just a TV aid used by umpires (when anayalsing there performances) and armchair viewers.

If they were going to use more technology then it should be something that the TV umpires can decide on using TV Replays ie. no balls, LBWs.

people do accept that umpires make wrong decision, just because they post saying they think the umpire got it wrong doesn't mean they didn't accept his decision. When people post about indiviual umpiring decisions all they are doing is comenting on the game, as umpiring decisions effect indiviual games. Just in the same way that people comment on play shots, we probably couldn't bat better then them, but they still played a bad shot. Just like we couldn't umpire better then Billy Bowden but he does makes mistakes and their is nothing wrong with posting about his mistakes
