You guys have just exemplified what is wrong with new zealand cricket at the moment...we are playing poeple out of position. Fleming is a number 3.

I stand by what i have said.
interesting that you haven't put a top six down yet.....
the reason i(and maybe a few others) want fleming to open is so sinclair can bat at three - sinclair is also a number three you know so what do you do when a situation like that comes up? a) you either drop one of them(sinclair) just so everyone can bat in their specialist postions or b)you pick the more adaptable and often better player(fleming) to bat in the weakest part of the current batting order(opening) assuming he is capable of doing that job to a quality standard(century at trent bridge?), that's the logic i work on anyway - could you please name your top six ? i would assume it would look something like this,

Papps/Cumming
How/Cumming
Fleming
Styris/Fulton
Astle
McMillan/Marshall

actually looks like a decent top six

Because Bracewell said it does it make it right? You have to learn tjhe ability to think for yourself.
You have to learn the ability to spell as well.

No, it's not because Bracewell said it it's right. I was saying that Fleming is likely to open, BECAUSE Bracewell said it.

just to set the record straight..............

my previously posted batting order (re Flem & Sinclair opening) is NOT what I would want to see, but IS what I expect to see under the circumstances & given the conservatism of the NZL selectors & the series will be v AUS...............

Papps has only opened in 1 series v RSA & missed most of ENG thru injury.......he has no current domestic form to warrant selection..........
Fleming then opened in his place for the ENG series..........
Sinclair has been used as opener since the ENG series v both BAN & AUS - so he has the most current experience in that position of any of the contenders........
IMO Cumming SHOULD be picked as he is the most consistant opener in domestic cricket this season to date...........

I'd prefer to see Flem & Sinclair batting at #3 & #4, and have no preference as to who is where atm.........I agree that Sinclair has his faults & likes a flat deck to perform at his best, but since his recall he has probably been one of the more consistant performers with the bat, and has certainly been more consistant than at any other time of his intnl career...........

I still do not rate Styris as a genuine Test #4 as I do not think he has the right technique to be effective on most types of wicket...........IMO he goes too hard at the ball too early...............

I'd NOT select Marshall unless the ball was likely to be coming on to the bat, and I'd certainly not use him on anything slow / low / turning.................probably much the same as Sinclair in that regard.....

I'm a staunch advocate of the 'horses for courses' selection for both batsmen & bowlers due to the limited resources, but this would not mean wholesale changes to the squad each Tour...............

and likewise a firm believer that you need to be able to dominate with the bat & post consistantly BIIIG totals to compensate for a weak bowling attack - as such I support the 'advance the game' theory, but believe you must have 6 genuine batsmen to do so on any given track..........and that you should also have slow bowling options from within those 6 batsmen to support your 4 specialist bowlers...........IMO Styris & McMillan are too much medium pace & I do not believe Astle will be able to bowl as much as b4 in such a role.............
