I can't quite see this favour of Afridi. I wonder how many people would have put him in their top five if it weren't for his exaggerated style and the recent trashing.

He averages 15 at No 6, 25 at No 5, 14 at No 7 and 20 at no 8. [20 mainly due to his recent inning] with only two fifties in over 40 matches.

Compare this to Razzaq, who averages 30 of 44 matches with 1 hundred and 3 fifties at No 6, 33 at number seven from fifty-nine matches [many fifties], and 45 from 19 matches at number 8.
razzaq is undoubtedly the best hitter in the last 10 overs in the world ATM. not flintoff or cairns can come in hammer bowling from the word go like razzaq can.

I disagree...Razzaq is in my top 5, but not "undoubtedly" the best

i agree TEC, when he gets going in the last 10 overs he doesn't stop - it's like teams can't get him out once he starts to hit out and he normally ends not out, all the other players are known strikers of the ball and arn't really known for hitting out at the end of an innings where razzaq has done it successfully more often than not

My top 5, in no particular order:

Flintoff
Bevan
Klusener
Razzaq
Cairns

Would have put the legends Tendulkar and Lara in there, but for the simple fact that they are not often batting during the last 10 overs, and if you needed 90 off the last 10 to win the World Cup, any of those five have probably slightly more improvisational know-how and sheer power than the two greats - can't believe I'm almost criticising Lara and Tendulkar, I should be shot.

Except neither of them can captain. That I can say without fear of death.

Wouldn't be so sure. I'd get the Kevlar out.

You say that, but I wouldn't say any of Cairns, Flintoff, Razzaq or Klusener have that much improvisation about them.

whos better than him at the moment? cairns and klusener are past their prime, afridi is riding on one game, flintoff isnt as explosive as razzaq and needs to get in before he can play his shots well enough.

I believe the 5 i mentioned are hard to separate. I certainly don't Razzaq is exclusively the best.

Thats just my opinion. It just happens to be different than yours.

Sorry we don't both think the same.

Definitely. I still remember that knock he played against NZ in the dead rubber 5th ODI in 2003/03 I think. It was amazing, Pakistan looked gone and he just started smashing the ball everywhere. If it wasn't for Akhtar's stupid lazy running he may have got Pakistan home.

Mine .....

Cairns
Afridi
Lara
Razzak
Flintoff

Note: I left the likes of Gilchrist and Sewag as being openers I've seen less of them in the last 10
How on earth can someone include the name of a player on the basis of just ONE INNINGS?????????? this is beyond me

Razzak is ceratainly the best, in the last few overs of onedayers Razzak just goes berzerk and destroys the bowlers, i haven't seen anyone as destructive as Razzak and i'm certain that the bowlers really hate facing Razzak in the last few overs of onedayers.

Other good batters for last ten overs,

Moin
Cairns
Flintoff
Lara

Zulu was awesome, its unfortunate that he's past his best though.

Razzaq is a hitter of big shots and is not a unidimensional slogger like Afridi. Razzaq has more strokes, more brains, can play a wider variety of bowlers and will therefore last longer. Is much surer in his hitting which is not the hit-or-miss variety of Afridi.

Razzaq reminds me of Kluesenar in his better days.

I agree with that. That being said, I wouldn't mind having both of them down there for the last 10.

SIX AND OUT

U19 12th Man
Adam Gilchrist - Certainly better opener than batting in the last 40 overs, but I would love him to come in for the final 10 overs because he can play aggressive from the first ball.
Andrew Symonds - Can't not be in this list, when he is hot, he is a certainty number one.
Chris Cairns - The Kiwi has a huge tonk rating, and is a specialist.
Abdul Razzaq - One of the best in the business when in the last 10 overs
Lance Klusener - Zulu cannot miss this one

Fiery

In order of destructive powers IMO:
1) Klusener
2) Cairns
3) Razzaq
4) Gilchrist
5) Afridi

Ganguly, once he gets past 100 deserves a mention. There was an innings he played in the 1999 World Cup which sticks in the mind where he hit nearly every ball straight down the ground regardless of where the ball pitched.
