A batsman who has carried their bat has opened the innings, and continued batting until all of his/her team-mates are out.

A bowler's average is the average number of runs it costs him/her to take a wicket.

And a strike rate is how many balls on average he/she bowls between wickets.

Or the player has opened and remains not out when the 50 overs are complete in a one day match.

Carrying the bat through an innings means exactly that. Being unbeaten right from ball one till the last ball of an inning. All the other players need not be out.
